Guest guest
Hi Laurie, Just want to let you know that I had revision surgery at University of California, San Francisco Medical Center by Dr. Bradford. He's the Chairman of Orthopedics there and still very much involved with scoliosis and flatback revision. It was a challenging situation for me but he and the medical and nursing staff treated me very well. Reply if you would like anymore information > I had never heard of Flatback Syndrome...until I came across it while reading about fusions...but I think I may have it. I had a Posterior fusion at T10-L4 in 1978...about 8 months in a body cast. While in the case the Harrington rod broke. The doctors thought that the bone from my hip was enough to keep the fusion solid...I had problems as soon as the cast came off and they continued until a year to the day after the first surgery when I had another...with 2 rods this time and then about 10 days later I had an anterior fusion using a rib. Another cast for 8 months and then I felt pretty good. Well that was 24 years ago. My sister tells me that I walk leaning forward and if I stand my knees are bent...My back is also very sore around the fusion area. It feels like a big bruise. My surgery was done by Bradford at the University of Minn. He is not there anymore...I have a fatigue feeling between my shoulders and right above the fusion area but I figure...my back was broken as a result of a car accident so I should expect pain for the rest of my life...broke my back when I was 19 and the first surgery was when I was 23...I am now, very soon to be 47...I think it will be interesting to read other people's stories....Laurie > > >
Guest guest
Hi ! Welcome to the group. I was also told the Hib vaccine caused the least amount of reactions. From your experience, I'd say if your son reacted that severely to the Hib, there is no way he should ever be vaccinated again. You are in the right group here, and if you have any questions please ask. I have two sons who have both had vaccine reactions. PS: Welcome all new members!! > Hello, my name is King. This is my first day on the Vaccinations Group. What a wealth of information! We're so blessed to have access to so much info to help make the most informed decisions about our children. I learned about this site through my friend who recently joined the group. > > I am the mother of a 15 month old son, Austin Luke King. I have researched vaccines extensively after agreeing to one Hep B in the hospital. I then went through 4 pediatricians until I found one who supported me in delaying them until after age 2 (which I have now decided not to do at all). My son has only had one other vaccine, 1 Hib (which I understand to be the least reactive) but that one HIB had him in the hospital with rectal bleeding, vomiting, fever of 105 and red throat which after researching seemed to be a reaction most likely to formaldehyde because he had no post nasal drip. I am more determined than ever to build my son's immune system through vitamins, herbs and proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. I feel certain in my heart that vaccinating him could have grave results. I realize that all children are different, and they all react differently, however for my son I feel strongly that I need to build his immune system and avoid vaccinations. I am interested in learning much more. > > Thanks, > King > > >
Guest guest
Dear txred, Welcome to the Feisty group. I think you will find that many of us have shared some of your experiences. I would be interested to know what your specific problems are these days and how they relate to the surgery you had. I take it you had a Harrington rod installed. Do you know how far down you were fused, and have you had a diagnosis of the specific damage that occurred? Dr. Blacklock at Baylor sounds like someone we should know about. I am impressed that he discussed the problems of your previous surgery with you as openly as he did. As you yourself have experienced, some spinal surgeons still avoid the topic. We continue to hear about a fair amount of denial and resistance re earlier types of scoliosis surgery, hardware used back then, and damage now evident in many patients.. I am sorry to hear about the response you received from Dr. Harrington's former associate. Best, > I am so thrilled to find you! Guest guest
.. Please email me. I live in Elmwood Park (bergen county). So happy to finally find a neighbor in this wonderful group!! I recently switched to a more " holistic minded " pediatrician and would love to share that info. with you. Arianna Mojica " All rights not demanded are presumed waived. ~ Thurston " When we give government the power to make medical decisions for us, we, in essence, accept that the state owns our bodies ~U.S. Representative Ron , MD. " New to the group... Hello, my name is and I am a new mom of a beautiful little boy named, ! I have decided not to vaccinate him because of all the research that I've done since the day that I found out I was pregnant. I feel nervous about my decision because I want to do what is best for him and I'm not sure what that is. I really do believe that not vaccinating him is what is best but I do have a worry in the back of my mind, is that the right decision? I also had a not-so- pleasant visit to the pediatrician' s office where he told me a whole bunch of horror stories of children who died that weren't vaccinated. I am looking for an open-minded pediatrician in bergen county, NJ that once I tell him/her that I do not want to vaccinate... he/she will not hound me everytime I go. Thanks for your time! ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Welcome Nichole! Rest assured you are currently in the same place we all were when we made the decision not to vaccinate. The best advice I can give is to just read, read, read. Arm yourself with knowledge, because the more you know on the subject of vaccines, the more you will take comfort in knowing you are absolutely, positively doing the best thing you can for your child by not vaccinating. I got the same type of comments from most mainstream doctors when my son was born that you are hearing now. I decided not to bother using a pediatricin, and it was the best decision, IMO. My child receives regular care from a chiropractor, and has seen holistic practitioners when needed. My 27 month old son has never been vaccinated; you should hear the comments I get ALL the time from other parents. They are constantly asking me why my son seems to never get sick... why my son seems so alert and bright compared to most other kids his age (I've gotten that since BIRTH). The answer is I never compromised his immune system with toxins, heavy metals and viruses! There are 15 kids all under the age of 5 on my culdesac, and my son was the ONLY one on the whole street that didn't get every illness known to man over this last winter -- which was a particularly bad flu season here in Denver, CO. All my neighbors were shut in their homes riding out the cold snowy weather with sick kids, and we were out making snow men and snow angels! The first time you have another parent ask you what you're doing different from them, you'll know it's because of the wise decision you made for him before he was even born. Again welcome, and please, ask questions and learn from the wealth of knowledge on this list! It will empower you. I also highly recommend taking Sheri's (the list owner's) classes on vaccines. http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/vaccineclass.htm On Sun, Mar 23, 2008 at 8:02 PM, nmoody423 <nmoody423@...> wrote: > > Hello, my name is and I am a new mom of a beautiful little boy > named, ! Thanks for your time! We have another person on the list from Bergen County......... Many have stopped going to peds. Some find naturopaths, homeopaths, chiropractors or sometimes family doctors are less threatening. Most peds visits are for vaccines anyway and the parents usually are the first to find something wrong anyway. I'll send some info on how to find practitioners. Glad you are aware Sheri >------------------------------------ > >

Guest guest
Glad you joined us! New to the group... Just a note to say hello! I just got my Vitamix a couple of days ago. I am already a healthy eating 'nut' due to some health issues with my son... he is PDD-NOS so I cook dairy free and try very hard to come up with exciting and yummy healthy ways to eat for kids. I am excited to learn all the ways I can use my Vitamix, and particularly interested in hearing healthy snack and treat ideas for children! Look forward to getting to know all of you!
