Guest guest
Yes, temptation overwhelms me practically everyday. Yes, we can get authentic ethnic cuisines here, but the QUALITY of ingredients at most (if not all) restaurants is a major compromise at best... ....I've posed this question before (what do you do to maximize health when you eat out?) but had no response. ---------->, I know restaraunts with high quality traditional foods are hard to find anywhere. But you might try local harvest (http://www.localharvest.org) for listings. You can check of the " restaurant " box, and input your zip code. I don't know any NY zip codes, so i just selected " NY " and got some listings in the city. I think the local harvest database only has about 4,000 listings currently, but the goal is 50,000, and new farms/restaurants/co-ops are signing up daily, so if you don't find anything good now, you might check back later (or sign up for " keep me posted " and they'll send you new listings in your area periodically). There may also be some type of organic foods association in the city that has a member directory? good luck! I envy you guys all the fun and excitement (i LOVE visiting NY city) but i don't know if i could be happy longterm without all my local farms! :-) Suze Fisher Lapdog Design, Inc. Guest guest
Thanks, Suze. I've been to the site once before and will definitely be back. jessica ---------->, I know restaraunts with high quality traditional foods are hard to find anywhere. Guest guest
- >Yes, temptation overwhelms me practically everyday. Yes, we can get >authentic ethnic cuisines here, but the QUALITY of ingredients at most (if >not all) restaurants is a major compromise at best. I almost entirely avoid temptation, but that's at least partly because I just can't afford to eat out in the first place. <g> But still, it sure is depressing to go out and try to find something healthy on the menu. The meat's all factory-farmed, everything's loaded with sugar, even meat dishes, and vegetables are prepared in vegetable oil instead of butter or (non-hydrogenated) lard. Even just from an Atkins perspective it's awfully tough. >I've posed this question before (what do you do to maximize health when >you eat out?) but had no response. I order simple things like steaks, I ask for them not to give me potatoes, I have them take away the bread basket... that's about it, really. I don't know what else there is to do. >--I will inquire about a Manhattan outpost for the eggs. PLEASE let >me know if you find a better source, as well. I appreciate that, and believe me, if I find some good eggs, you and everyone else on this list will be the first ones to know! -

Unfortunately, there's no information on the individual listings that would let me know why they're listed there. A couple had links, and I wasn't so enthused about what I found. One was a vegetarian restaurant, for example. -
Guest guest
I get that too and to top it off I can't sleep afterwards if this is the evening meal that we eat out. It has to be the MSG in my opinion! My elderly mother and I would go out to eat at Kentucky Fried Chickn (1997-1998) just before going to the doctor for a checkup. She would become totally mentally confused. Her appointment was within 30-60 minutes after we ate. So while at doctor I ask him about it and he said her blood pressure was way up too. He said yes the MSG can cause confusion (I about fell over because most doctors don't tell you that). Betty [ ] Eating at Restaurants How do you eat at restaurants while staying on this diet? We all went out to eat on Friday night at Pizzeria Uno. My husband ordered a personal sized pizza, my daughter ordered vegetable soup, & I ordered a salad. It was green salad with peppers, onions, tomatoes, & grilled chicken (no dressing). It was pretty good except for the chicken - it was extremely salty. I thought that I did good trying to order a healthy meal but afterwards I was very thirsty & my stomach was very bloated. Any suggestions? Thanks!!! Guest guest
Lynn, I have found there are some places I can eat and some that are a lot more difficult. I also have food allergies which can make it even more challenging. However, sometimes the wait staff is a little more helpful if I mention food allergies and will provide more information. If you have to, tell them you have food allergies because candida in a way is a food allergy because you can't eat certain foods. I have found it helpful to ask LOTS of questions. The chicken was probably marinated in something that affected the yeast. If you are unsure or if there is nothing on the menu that is " safe " order what I call " lettuce in a bowl " (and I request romaine, not iceberg) with olive oil on the side. After a while you'll know where you can eat. And, don't be afraid to leave. Luckily my family is very supportive and while traveling we had to leave a restaurant because there was NOTHING on the menu I could have. You'll feel better. Hope that helps.
