I guess V. Steffanson's work is pretty hard to find... My mom got me for

Christmas a personally signed copy of My Life With the Eskimo!

In it is a personal note written into the title page that says " For

Holden as replacement of his lost copy of this [book?] of his friend,

Vilhjalmur Stefansson. "

AND, this letter!

's Birthday Party

Dear Barbara and :

says this week-end's is going to be her last birthday celebration.

Though I hope she will not keep to that resolve, there is to be said that

another would almost necessarily be an anticlimax. Your three houses in

their beautiful setting , you two in the first house, Zoe and Henry in the

second and Marjorie in the third, Myron tingering your hi-fi and your five

friends from Hanover and Norwick -- what more could there be to our cup

without overflowing?

[signed]

Not only a book, but a historical artifact! :-D

And yes, Wanita, I did get Metabolic Man. I'm trying to finish Two Towers

fast as I can so I can go out to the movie quickly, and will start it as soon

as I finish. I'm layed off for January-- might get a few days of work in--

so have little to do but snowboard, play the new game, and read :-)

*rubs his hands and snickers in anticipation of long vacation*

Happy holidays!

" What can one say of a soul, of a heart, filled with compassion? It is a

heart which burns with love for every creature: for human beings, birds, and

animals, for serpents and for demons. The thought of them and the sight of

them make the tears of the saint flow. And this immense and intense

compassion, which flows from the heart of the saints, makes them unable to

bear the sight of the smallest, most insignificant wound in any creature.

Thus they pray ceaselessly, with tears, even for animals, for enemies of the

truth, and for those who do them wrong. "

--Saint Isaac the Syrian
