Guest guest
, I didn't see that episode (but it sounds like a good one!). A fever due to infection can be suppressed by prednisone, but I think it would depend on the circumstances and the dose; that is, it is certainly possible to be on prednisone and still develop a fever. Fever or not, when you are on prednisone, your ability to fight infection may be impaired. That is a known risk of being on the drug. One of the major reasons lupus patients have a lot of trouble with infections is that so many of them are on corticosteroids. Hope your appointment with the rheumy went well. ----- Original Message ----- From: " /Celine Kossart " <kozys@...> < > Sent: Monday, February 26, 2001 10:30 PM Subject: [ ] Prednisone question > Hi all, > > Just remembered something I wanted to ask about. Guest guest
Immune suppression is a problem with just about all of our RA drugs. I mean after all what we are trying to do is surpress an OVER active immune system. I am on remicade-not working well at all at the moment-end of cycle, hope after my next infusion on Tuesday things improve. But my surgeon has me off of the methatrexate during and since surgery because I am at high risk for infection anyway. When I was on the prednisone is when my first abscess occurred and the surgeon believes that I probably had some level of infection for a long time but my immune system handled it until we started surpressing it. Sure is a double edged sword! What helps the arthritis, hurts other things! I did see that episode and it was good and I fully understand why someone would want to stay on prednisone-only time that I have ever been pain free since this whole mess began but I need a minimum of 15 mgs for it to help at all. Guest guest
Jan: Why do you take 15mg of prednisone? Do you have to take that much? It is better in the long run if you can take less. There are so many side effects with prednisone after a few years. I have been on it for 15 years and I can't get off of it. I am only on 5mg but I have a lot of the side effects. Cataracts, osteoporosis, and weight gain to name a few. Talk to your Dr. and see what he/she can substitute. Good Luck. Sincerely, Colletti Anjillah@... Guest guest
; Believe me I have talked and talked to my dr about taking the prednisone and he says no. However, I have an appt on the 25 and I'm making the decision to go off even if I have to change. I know the side effects well, my vision is shot, I've gained an enormous amount of weight, my joints are already shot so I see no reason to stay on it. I have been up to 60 mg. for different periods of time. I never understood why we had to take a drug that we know destroys our bones. I already have bone loss shown and had to add Evista and extra calcium. It seems to me the Methotrexate should work. I still have to take pain med so I don't see where the pred is doing any good at all. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the concern. I don't know where I would be without this group. Blessings. Guest guest
Joanne, I¹ve read that the moon face and most side effects are reversed when the steroids are discontinued. I¹ve posted sites on prednisone and hope they answer your question. a > Hi Are there any sites available regarding long term, low dose prednisone. > I want to know if it is even possible to lose the weight and regain the > normal shape of my face caused by the 5 mg prednisone I have taken every > other day for a few yrs now. > > thanks > Love Joanne > > >
