Guest guest
Hi everyone, I wrote to the list about not eating meat for 10+ years. I gave up meat when I was about 17 and just started eating it again (I'm 30). When I was about 19 I decided I would try a " vegan " diet and within 2 years was overweight and depressed. I started eating a little fish in '94 and have been going through candida and hormone related problems since '95. The only question I want to raise about eschewing meat is, how spiritual is it to be sick and unhealthy all the time? I do not disagree that eating meat " seems " unspiritual, heavy, not light and lovely like eating rice and tempeh. I was very judgemental of my mother and sister for years for eating meat. I always thought of them as being " less spiritual " than me. They may not have the same kind of awareness that I have, but neither of them have had the kinds of constant health issues that I have either. For whatever hardness meat has given them it's also given them a lot of strength and determination which I honestly have lacked. I'm starting to consider the idea that it's spiritual to eat in a way that supports one's nature or highest good, not in a way that is dictated by the mainstream. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Hi , Is this a rhetorical question you're asking yourself? Or was this directed toward Elize? Eating red meat is not right for everyone, and therefore not everyone is sick and unhealthy as a result of not eating red meat. And consider possibility that going against your own spiritual beliefs can make you sick and unhealthy. While I have many health issues, eating red meat is not the solution for me. I've tried it, and I get a headache so bad it feels like someone has driven a spike into my skull. Plus, I get so weak and tired, I can barely stand up. Who knows...maybe it upsets me to eat red meat on a spiritual level, and that causes a physical reaction. >I'm starting to consider the idea that it's spiritual to eat in a way that >supports one's nature or highest good, not in a way that is dictated by the >mainstream. And for a lot of people, not eating red meat DOES support their nature and highest good. Every body is different! Lynn
