So, you have to use real leather sheets for the dehydrator? Is that

what they come with? Sounds odd...

Drop the pudding mixture by the teaspoon onto lightly oiled solid

leather sheets and with the back of a tablespoon spread it into

rounds, each 1 to 2 inches in diameter.

No, they are not made out of leather (lol) but for making leathers on. They

are actually plastic, with sort of a lip to keep the liquids from falling

through the trays or off the edges. Mine came with one and I bought two

more. You can also use plastic cling film (is that the PC way to say Saran

Wrap?) that you have pulled up over the edges, but I am not sure how you

would keep it in place.

Amy,

I buy most of my meat at Wild Oats because the guys working there are so

helpful. They will special cut, discuss cooking methods, recommend, etc. I

don;t know if all of their meats are grass fed - it never occurred to me to

ask! Oooops. I do know that they are all natural, not hormone filled, etc.

I have also bought meat at my local tiny little butcher, Vitamin Cottage.....

I shop around. I am thinking of buying part of an elk from my brother who

raises them and has some for sale in the Paonia Food Co-op. Will have to

arrange for him to bring it with him on a trip to town. DO you have any

ideas for sources of lamb?

Betsy,

As a non-secretor chocoholic, you're torturing me with this. Both vanilla

and applesauce are O non-secretor avoids (and all chocolate pudding mixes

have dairy products which would be an avoid for all of us).

If you can think of a way to make this yummy sounding concoction compliant,

pretty please let us know!!

I'm not sure who it was who said they were addicted to tootsie rolls, but

while reading my way through another dehydrator cookbook from the library I

found this recipe. I haven't tried it yet, and I don't have any pudding

around to read the ingredients, but I am going to try it soon!

Chocolate Pudding Leather Cookies Makes 30

One 3.5 ounce package chocolate fudge instant pudding

1 cup milk (use rice, soy, almond...whatever works for you)

1 cup applesauce (preferably organic unsweetened)

1 tsp vanilla

In a bowl, combine all the ingredients well. Drop the pudding mixture by

the

teaspoon onto lightly oiled solid leather sheets and with the back of a

tablespoon spread it into rounds, each 1 to 2 inches in diameter. Leave 1/2

to 1 inch between the rounds. Place the drying trays in the dehydrator.

The

drying time will depend upon the make of dehydrator you are using and the

thickness of the rounds. Allow about 5 hours, or until you can peel the

rounds off the sheets. Turn the rounds over and dry for another 5 hours.

To store: Stack on top of each other. Optional: you can sprinkle the

finished sheets with arrowroot to prevent them from sticking together. Wrap

securely in plastic wrap and put in an airtight container. Kept at room

temperature, they will keep for a year (yeah, right!). Refrigerated or

frozen, they will keep indefinitely.

They sound yummy to me!

That will be a challenge since I think the closest us Type O

Non-secretors can get to anything sweet is whole fruit, a few fruit

juices and molasses (yuk). We're just here to tear animal flesh and

plant cell walls before we exercise vigourously :-)
