Hi All

Well I ended the year at the ER in San Diego with a swollen tongue and throat

ulcers. It swelled so much that I could hardly eat, talk, swallow or breathe.

We had been in Newport Beach visiting my brother and started back to Tucson with

a stop over in San Diego after Christmas. After 3 hours in the ER the doctor

said he did not know if it was viral or bacterial so he gave me 3 rxs to fill:

Penicillin and Famiciclover and Lidocaine for pain. We drove home for 8 hours

after the ER visit. That was last Friday and I have been in bed mostly since

then. Now I am coming down with a cough and a cold.

Oddly enough before the tongue started swelling I was getting leg and back pain

and thought I was just having an arthritis flare. This has happened to me

before in terms of arthritis pain then a cold or other illness.

Today my mail order pharmacy called me in regards to my recent refill on

Methotrexate. The pharmacist informed me that Penicillin can make the MTX toxic

to my system. So I had to call my doc here and will see her tomorrow to sort

this out.

Regarding antibiotics. When I started the Penicillin I noticed that my

breathing improved. I have been on a daily low dose of Cipro for about 8

months. I know that I always do better when I take antibiotics.

Is anyone here taking Orencia?? My doc put me on it last August and one of the

side effects is a sore throat. Has anyone had side effects? This is a new drug

and it is by infusion.

Prayer for a healthier New Year for us all.

God Bless

Priscilla

Have you ever tried Valtrex for mouth/throat ulcerations? It helps me

tremendously, even for allergy-type reactions. I first took it when I

had shingles and I noticed it healed a mouth ulcer I had beneath my

tongue. (I was given 1 gram 4 x day.) Since then, I have used it each

time I have any type of oral or nasal lesion. Lysine caps, broken open

and applied directly to the sores can be soothing and aid in drying them

up.

Another healing tip is to mix glycerin with the liquid lidocaine. It

will slide down your throat, better coating the areas that need it and

keeping them numb longer.

So very sorry to hear of your ills. I hope you feel better soon. My

prayers are with you!

Blessed be.
