Guest guest
*Dear Friends & Loved Ones* Its amazing how prayers do get answered!! I've had a few bad days, with getting my van totaled and not having the financial part for the deductable and ALL I had was prayers and several of you have offered to help me and I wanted to first of all thank you first and also to be a witness to you how wonderful our Savior works upon us. After we crashed the car, my Ins. company went & got an estimate, got that taken care of. Then we made a few phone calls and that was that. I called Brookdale Dodge, they brought out a nice used van and today I bought it!!!!! I didn't even need to come up with the deductable because they took it off of my estimate. I'm getting the ramp on & EZ Lock installed sometime this next week!! The Lord is on my side, praise be to Jesus!!! Jodi & MM & O
Guest guest
-Wow Liz, You have an angel on your shoulder or what? You have been in a horrific accident even though not much damage to you, dogs or car. But I can not believe all that and you didn't get put in the hospital or anything.I should say, someone was watching out for you.Glad you are doing good.I got a steroid shot last Thurs. and can hardly move around. I think my angel has been asleep or something. Life, what an adventure it can be. Good to be reading your email rather than the obituary's. Take care, rest up,and keep us posted. Guest guest
Thank you! I am pretty sore in my back yet. The impact really jerked me harder than I knew, it appears. I can't remember if I mentioned about the methotrexate problem.. I carry all my meds in a " caddy " with separate days and separate day sections that pop out so if I want I can carry the day's meds in my pocket or something. During the accident my caddy was thrown to the floor and the sections came out. none of the pills did fortunately... Everything was such a mess and it took me forever to get all the stuff out of that car and into the rental car. I just used whichever section I found to take my night meds. I always take my methotrexate on Friday. The accident was Thursday. I'm not sure which day's meds I took. I know it is very important to keep your metho apart by 7 days..and I'm having some elevated liver enzymes of late so they have been watching my lab carefully. So I'm afraid to guess which day I took them. Meantime my back, now compromised by the " jolt " and my right knee (which is becoming very painful and stiff) are a problem. I think I am just going to take metho today and hope for the best. My 6 month check up on the mammogram is coming up this week and I'm very concerned about the amount of stress my body has been going through recently..and how it may affect any problems I have had in the past (the areas I had to have removed in September). I also am having issues with the reflux and assault to my esophagus by the meds. I have to go to Ohio to help my friend move here but after that I'm to have an endoscopy. The new procedure they have.. the stretta procedure, sounds interesting. As Elton says though, I'm still standing:) As for my dogs.. the little rascals thought the whole thing was a great adventure... Dear , I am a " lurker " -- pretty sure this is my first post! But I had to speak up, having had many things changed for me by a head-on collision 13 yrs ago. Like you, I mostly felt hugely grateful, as the fact that no one was killed was surely up to powers-that-be. Getting your mind & body jarred like that has long-lasting & unpredictable effects. Be patient with yourself. And most of all, be proactive: get to a doctor, file a report with insurance if you haven't already. Sometimes things crop up later that are related, but it's hard for doctors or insurance to connect the dots if there's no paper trail. You might want to get going immediately on a claim that would bring auto insurance money in to help with the additional medical issues you know this will be causing because of your spondy. Guest guest
I am not sure about the claim since I am on medicaid. Do you think I should still file one? I've never been in a situation like this before. It doesn't seem like I would get any money if medicaid pays everything anyway... and I can't " sue " for pain and suffering as it was a self-only accident... (not that I am a sue-r anyway!) Guest guest
It also depends on the fault and the type of auto insurance that you have. I had an accident that I was considered 75% at fault and the other unlicensed/uninsured driver was 25% at fault. Both of our cars were totaled. But the way our insurance was set up, because I was at fault the insurance would only cover the loss of my vehicle and his vehicle. So I had to use our regular health insurance. Most medical forms will ask if the visit is due to an accident/injury. They want the auto insurance to pay if they should be paying. So I'd talk to the auto agent/company first. Good luck..I understand the frustration. With my accident, we found it bazaar that an unlicensed driver wouldn't be 100% at fault, as they shouldn't be behind the wheel. ( I was turning left on unrestricted light. I had time to get through but he speed up(over the limit) and never moved over to the other lane to avoid the accident. I was crossing the second lane almost out of the intersection. His little car hit my van so hard in the rear panel that he rolled my van. ) Kate G At 07:56 AM 4/7/2008, you wrote: >I am not sure about the claim since I am on medicaid. Guest guest
Yuck, insurance companies are horrible like that. I was found to be partially at fault in an accident where a car running a red light caused a chain reaction accident with myself and another car as we tried to not hit the guy running the light. I thought since the guy ran the light I'd be totally in the right, but apparently not according to Geico. The person that ran the light was never caught since we only had a decription of the vehicle but didn't see the license plate. Another time, someone keyed the side of my car, but the insurance company said it COULD have happened due to a bike riding on the sidewalk too close to my car since it was just one long scratch, and so they processed the claim as an uninsured motorist collision instead of comprehensive so that my deductible would be higher. ~

(not that I am a sue-r anyway!) I'm just referring to the police report/ insurance claim that happens with any accident. " Fault " etc all depends on the state you are in. Many situations are deemed " no fault " here in NJ. But as long as you have your initial accident paperwork filed, as someone noted, the next step is simply to check off 'yes' on the 'injury due to accident?' line of a doctor's-visit form. Insurance co's take it from there.

You need to be sure to get to a doctor to be checked out and say that it is because of the accident just to have it on the record as well as to see if anything happened that you don't know about. You never know what will happen in the future with a claim but if you don't have that first contact with the police (which I think you did) and with a doctor, it is hard to reconstruct a claim. I tried to say that in a post a week or more ago - I was rear ended in Jan 07 but I didn't really think that I was hurt at the time and my doctor and I didn't figure out that it wasn't my arthritis until April when they found I have 3 fractures in my pelvis. By that time, it couldn't be treated properly and we are having a hard time building a case because of the time lapse. So, both legally and medically, it is best to get checked out and cover all your bases as far as filing with insurance companies. As everyone knows, the meds we take do a real number on our bones and they don't do well in car accidents! How is your back doing? I sure hope you are feeling better and that you will have no long term problems from the accident. You have had enough to deal with and you don't need anything added on top of everything else.
