Guest guest
Tim, gave good advice about your Mother's uveitis. The cloudiness is most likely from the inflammation. Her pressure is high, but if you start to loose eyesight from glaucoma...it is usually black in color where you would have normally been able to see. Blindness from glaucoma usually starts in the lower half of your vision..again usually in about 1/4th of the lower half and it is completely black. The dimming of vision as a cloudy area will most likely clear up with the steroid/dilating drops. When it becomes more chronic, as opposed to acute, then the drops should be increased, dilations more often and it may take more than a few weeks to simmer it down. I've been on drops (both) for months and one time for years.....no kidding! Some for the glaucoma drops at the same time. That high OP pressure should be addressed. It sounds like that is what they are doing. She might mention a drug that helped Priscilla and me....called Plaquenil. It did help me for about 7 years before it became less effective. The side effects a minimal to the advantages it gave us. It is a low dose, not the high dose they use for Malaria. It evidently has anti inflammtory properties in it. We took it at night and slept thrugh any side effects anyway. Like said, it is best you get this treated aggressively. Even with my uveitis, being so very chronic, led to glaucoma (lost my lower vision) and had an implant inserted which was the best thing I ever did. Had a lot of complications afterwards, but it all simmered down and the implant works magically. Try to get the best doctor you can...some speciallize in uveitis. Ask around. Hope you have a big medical complex near you. Sincerely and best wishes, Connie (granny)
Guest guest
Hi Granny, I was wondering who prescibed the plaquenel, the eye dr or rhemy? And what are the implants you are talking about? > > Tim, gave good advice about your Mother's uveitis. The > cloudiness is most likely from the inflammation. Guest guest
& Connie, I don't think its glaucoma because she said it was pure white blur, no blackness at all. She was on lotemax, alphagan-P, timolol, homatropine, acular, & isopto. but is now only on pred/fortat. Are they any other drugs for maintenance that has fewer side effect than steroids? Is Plaquenil good for that? Are the dilation drugs important? Her regular Dr had her on them but the " specialist " said to go off all, except for the steroids. Her left eye has a " condition " , Dr say it was brought on by German measles that her mother had while pregnant with my mom. This came on when she was 20 years old. She basically NO central vision with only limited peripheral vision. Left eye was never treated. The Drs said, at some time it might flair up in her right eye with different symptoms. Since 21 years of age she's had constant inflammation in the fluid of the eye. She had cataract surgery in the right eye 25 years ago, the Drs think the meds brought on the cataract. She has lots of floater, sensitive to light, with eye pain when flared. She was on prednisolone/predfortat for 40 years, & only in the last year or 2 she was taken off & wasn't on anything. This is when she has had a few flares with 2 bad ones. It was a bad idea to take her of the pred I guess. Thank you, you help is very much appreciated! Guest guest
Priscilla & Connie, She was on the dilation drops for about 3 weeks, then the Dr had her stop without tapering off. I will have to ask the Dr about not tapering off that. She could very well have other eye disease, I just don't know. Sounds like you all have been though so much. Its a tough thing. I cant thank you enough for your help!! Tim
