Guest guest
Well guys and gals, I went for my follow up appointment with my Rheumy and he tells me that as far as he can tell I don't really have Ankylosing. He cannot say for certain due to the fact that my spine is in prestine condition. But, it is possible that I may be in the very early stages of the disease and it has yet to physically effect my spine. He does know that I do have some form of spondy due to the edges of my sacrolac joint not being clean and more jagged but if it is really Ankylosing or not he doesn't know for certain. We did talk about the reason that I am in so much pain. He believe that part of my problem is due to several medical condition all at once. He informed me that because of my vitamin D level being so low- it was a 8.2 instead of like 33 which is normal, it can contribute to the pain, along with my thyroid condition which can do the same and IF I have Hep C, it has been known in some people to cause joint pain and then I have the spondy. He wants me to continue taking the Vitamin D that he has me on. Then once I have finished taking the 50,000 units once a week for 8 weeks he wants me to cut down to 1000 plus take calcium 1000-1500mg a day. He tells me that should hopefully make a difference in my pain. I am hoping that he is right. I got to thinking about the vitamin D issue, and realized that I am not normally outside in the sun since that is how our bodies help produce it along with drinking or eating foods that have it. Mainly because I feel so bad. So I thought that I should at least suggest to the group that everyone have their levels checked if they have not been checked before and start taking vitamin D. It may help with some of the pain. I have noticed since I have taken this weeks dose that my hands, wrists, and my shoulders have not given me so much trouble. Hopefully, it is due to either remission or at least due to the vitamin D that I have been taken. I am hoping that the pain that I suffer in my knees and ankles as well as my back will hopefully decrease. I am not expecting a mircle, but a decrease of any kind would be nice. It was just a thought. Maybe this bit of info will help someone. Barbara
