Guest guest
I have had reactive arthritis for 2 years now. I have been having alot of sacrum pain lately as well. It wakes me up at night, and I have to roll over or somehow change positions. I also have been having some pain down my Left leg. The last week or so I have been alot more achy, probably the cold weather. But I do get very hot at times and need a fan on me, and can go outside with a light jacket unless it's really windy, like you said. It's amazing how similar our symptoms are. I live in Mishawaka, IN, (near Michigan state line) we have about 5 inches of new snow. Sue Liz_K <juliette@...> wrote: Recently I have had a lot of problems with my SI Joints. I often am awakened in the night because one of them is hurting so much it breaks through my sleep. I have to turn the other way but that often doesn't help a lot. Getting my husband to rub the area helps IF I can get him to stay awake longer than 2 seconds:) I had that flu going around a couple of weeks ago and during that, every single joint was just screaming. I had the mother of all headaches as well. Luckily that bug was short-lived! Right now " the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful " as the song says. I have to keep warm! I'm always hot in the night though and wake up sweating quite often. outside the house if the wind is blowing I am very cold. If not I barely need a coat at even 40 degrees. Hope you all are doing well! Guest guest
I've always been extremely sensitive to cold, since I was a child. I've been on Synthroid for over a year now, but I can't say it has helped a wit with regards to sensitivity to cold, but it has helped alleviate a lot of other hypothyroid symptoms I was experiencing. Just don't want people to get the impression that taking thyroid hormone supplements will somehow fix the flaws in one's internal body thermostat. That wasn't the case for me, anyway. __
Guest guest
--Hi CHristine, THank you. It's nice to finally hear that others have the same experience. I have been so frustrated that even though I take Synthroid for my hypothyroidism that I still can't tolerate the cold. I've been on it for over 10 years now, and I still have some of the other symptoms like severely dry hands, brittle hair, and eyebrow loss, but all tests continue to be normal. Take care, > I've always been extremely sensitive to cold, since I was a child. Guest guest
Interesting thread. I have PsA, AS, RA, and a couple of other members of the family. What you describe is much the same as what I experienced while waiting for a diagnosis. The skin on the palms of my hands and other extremities would thicken up then split along the palm lines. It was utterly sore and ugly and the first treatment consisted of betnovate ointment on the hands then guaze pads held in place by a latex glove. This occluded the site and helped it to heal faster. All I do today when I have psoriatic breakdowns is use Krazy Glue to seal the splits in the skin and keep the part dry and clean. I thought my doctor was nuts when he first mentioned doing that and I told him so. The flares now are fewer and further between episodes and no doubt that is due in part to the Prednisone and Betnovate cream. Another interesting item you mentioned is the low tolerance for cold. My daughter who has inherited some of my problems is also allergic to cold. We found that out one September day while fishing and she came over from the car crying and scratching, she was covered with ugly red and purple welts. I whipped her to the nearest hospital where she was treated. She still has problems today and when the weather hit the skids here and plunged us into -40 C/F temperatures she had to hibernate and the kids went over to their grandmother's, their dad's mother. She goes absolutely bonkers when this happens. She never outgrew it. I do know that she blesses me for every welt she gets on her body. Oh well, we live and learn about these diseases the hard way. Hands on trial and error. She is sleeping better tonight snuggled up in a couple of sleeping bags as even the slightest swish of air sets off the alarms. Blessings to you all. Fr. Dave --- avast! Guest guest
Dry skin, eyebrow loss, hair falling out, cold intolerance are all thyroid symptoms. I still have dry skin at this time of year because we have the heater on and we go from major humidity to no humidity here in Southeast Texas. The big issues to look for in thyroid disease are major joint pain, fatigue, constipation, sleep disturbances and PMS. When you still have those, you are under medicated. The problem is doctors put everyone in a box, you are a number. So we must press our doctors or find new ones that are willing to raise our thyroid replacement. Thyroid also works with your other hormones. Many women need to progesterone to help balance it all out. There is an excellent book I recommend. The Estrogen Alternative by Raquel and Judi Gerstung. I recommend Progesterone. Dr. Lee has some great books too and a wonderful progesterone OTC product that has helped me. http://www.johnleemd.com/ Kate G Hahsi's AS At 04:17 PM 12/16/2008, you wrote: >- >Wait I'm not that educated in this disease. Guest guest
--- Hi Bonnie, THese are symptoms of hypothyroidism which means that your thyroid isn't working properly. Eventually, you feel just blah! I also had unexplained weight gain, and it is very difficult to lose weight when you have this thyroid problem. It causes brittle hair, eyebrow loss, dry hands that won't get better no matter how much lotion you put on. It's definitely a condition that should be tested for if you have similar symptoms or just as part of your annual physical. It is another auto immune disease/disorder. Hope this helps.
