Mark, I had a huge reaction -- I think -- to doxycycline. But my ReA was also

beginning at the time I started the doxy, and I may never know which was which.

However, I believe many antibiotics, including doxycycline, increase your

sensitivity to the sun, and even a " normal " exposure (something you wouldn't

have thought twice about) can get you burned. Consider this possibility.

Hi, The only time I saw that kind of reaction from anti biotis, is when

my daughter was small and had an ear infection, and she was allergic to

the anti biotis they gave her. Otherwise, I have never had anything like

that, and I have been on most anti biotis there are, or ever were. Did

the dr keep on on it or change you to another? I am female, but I don't

know if that makes a difference with the drug. Let us know what happens

with it, ok? D, in Oregon

Has anyone else had this side effect from doxycycline,

or is it (yet) another

> symptom of Reiter's?

>

i took doxy one time back in 2001 for an infection that the doctor

removed that was between (for lack of better terms) hooked between my

uterus and colon and he said to me i have no idea where this came

from but i removed it (which he did through laproscopy) in any event

i was prescribed doxy and it made me violently sick i would take it

and within a half hour i would be physically sick so i decide to stop

taking it.... now i wonder if i had triggered an unescapable episode

that i had no way of knowing would occur. shortly after that i got

sick from something which i think was bad seafood and shortly after

that i started to get all these pains and aches and etc etc. i often

wonder if i had continued to take that pill would i be where i am now

Thanks Roy,

From reading up on Doxycycline myself before starting to take it, I was aware of

a link to

photosensitivity, and took extra care to keep out of the sun (not that there has

been much

here) and for the past few days have stayed at home with the curtains drawn. My

doctor

thinks it's more likely to be eczema and have been prescribed Daktacort cream,

which does

seem to be helping a bit. I know it may be too early (after only 6 days) to say

for sure, but the

antibiotic doesn't seem to be doing anything for my other symptoms, and I think

it may be

the cause of the headaches I've been having over the last 3 days. It's also

making me feel

miserable and depressed too, so I'm wondering whether to stop taking it. I'm

still awaiting

results of Chlamydia and HLA-B27 tests.

Best regards,

Mark.

Hi ,

I've been on the doxycycline for 6 (pretty miserable) days, so maybe too early

to say if it will

be beneficial (doesn't seem to be so far). Saw my doctor two days ago, who

persuaded me to

stick with it and prescribed Daktacort cream to deal with the eczema (seems to

be slightly

improving it). He also said I might have to continue with doxy for three months,

a prospect I

relish not at all. I am wondering if I should go back and ask him for another

type of antibiotic

(but tried 3 others, while my urologist still thought it was " simple "

prostatitis) or if I am now

allergic to all antibiotics! My Reiter's symptoms were bad overnight and I'm not

at all sure if

it's not actually the doxy that's making things worse.

Best regards,

Mark.
