Guest guest
It was explained to me by my gyn that the bladder is located near the uterus and can get irritated. In my case I had not had sex in l4 years and he felt that having sex after so long made the bladder feel, I guess, alert to intrusions. I had antibiotics and the cystitis recurred a day after the pills were gone. I still have it, it is lessening. Best wishes. Cystitis Dear list Yesterday afternoon I felt the familiar pangs of bladder infection, after many months without this problem which had been recurring at intervals of around 3 to 6 months, since I was 13 years old (I'm now 52). I always prefer alternative treatments ... except for this! The minute I get it I reach for the antibiotics. It is always painful and makes me miserable. I have been taking H202 baths lately but find that after being in the bath for half an hour my bladder starts to feel 'uncomfortable' (for want of a better word!) and I have to get out. The feeling lasts for 10 minutes and then I'm fine. I was rather hoping that these baths would be a 'preventative'. Over the years I've discovered that if I get overstressed, too cold or too hot, or stand on my feet for too long or indulge in too much sexual activity (too much for my bladder, I guess!) then it flares up. My urologist even gave me antibiotics to take like a 'morning after' pill and that did seem to be quite effective although I often forget to take them! Ozone saunas sound amazing but it would have to be bought from overseas and the cost would be prohibitive. In fact most of the remedies mentioned in the forum are not available in South Africa - it took me a couple of years to locate a supplier of 35% food grade H202 and persuade them to sell it to me. I know of two homeopaths who do ozone therapy but the costs are high. Having said that I welcome any suggestions and constantly work on attracting more abundance and prosperity into my life! Guest guest
When I was in Bolivia 3 years ago I was taking 12-14 hour bus rides with no public restrooms so I didn't drink enough fluids....I started to get a terrible infection. I went into a restaurant and asked if they had water with lemon juice (agua con limon). They had limes. I took a lime, cut it in half and put it in a big glass of water and this got rid of the infection for me. There wasn't any cranberry juice where I was, but the huge glass of water with a fresh squeezed lime taken as soon as I began to feel the symptoms worked for me. Guest guest
, Sorry for the misunderstanding. As Churchill said, we are separated by a common language. I am perplexed that your thyroid status is not under more stable control, but if your achieving a symptom free state is involved with triggering the infections, you might want to look at whatever you are taking to get there. Some people are allergic or sensitive to a variety of foods or additives. Best, Chuck
Guest guest
Hello, I am a new member. I am still learning to navigate this site, so please forgive me if I am not posting at the appropriate site. I have a couple of questions. I was first diagnosed with Reiter's Syndrome then ultimately (thus far) diagnosed with Spondylitis. The Reiter's Syndrome diagnosis came after over a year of feeling like a jelly fish, a highly venomous one at that, had taken up residence in my bladder whose favorite pass time was to send it's stingers down my urethra. It took an OB/Gyn, PCP, and 3 different urologists and then finally it was the Rheumatologist who put it all together that it was Reiter's. Of course the review of systems revealed the joint pain and swelling, the enthesopathies, and the eye inflammation. In short, over the past 6 months, I have been on 2 different tnf inhibitors (humira and now simponi) (not simultaneously) and have found great great relief from my bladder symptoms. But now they seem to be eeking back in. Ick. Here are my questions: 1) Are any of you on a tnf inhibitor? If so, which one? And how has it affected your bladder symptoms? 2) When I typed in " cystitis " to the search in this group, I got A LOT of hits, however, it seemed that they were all for Interstitial Cystitis. So here is my second set of questions - have you all been diagnosed with BOTH Reiter's and IC? IF so, what are you doing for the IC? Are you doing this on top of specific Reiter's treatment? And is it helping? I appreciate any information you can give me. Thank you so much, Mama Quay
Guest guest
Hi Priscilla,  I was wondering if you could tell me more about your bladder condition. What are your symptoms? My grandfather on my mother's side had AS. My Mom has occasional boughts with iritis, dry eyes, and styes, but other then that, hasn't had any other spondy related diseases. Lately however, she's been suffering some bladder issues, and they seem to be getting worse. She complains of pain in her bladder and the feeling she has to go to the bathroom all the time. The doctors have run a lot of tests, but haven't found a diagnosis yet. She has anxiety issues too, and worries that her doctors aren't taking her seriously and treat her like a hypocondriac. I hope it's nothing serious, but I worry it may be another autoimmune disease - we seem to have a lot of those in the family.  From: Hagerty <hgrty777@...> Subject: Re: Cystitis Date: Saturday, May 28, 2011, 12:30 PM  Hi Mama Quay Sorry to hear you have so much to deal with there. Do you have a good urologist? There are many new treatments out. One theory is that treating the Reiter's also treats the other inflammations. Doesn't always work that way. Some Rheum docs understand and can treat all things. Otherwise you end up with a lot of different specialists. I have Reiter's with Ankylosing spondylitis and Interstial Cystitis. I had bladder problems when I was 18, then colitis when I was about 25, then Iritis when I was 28, then Ankylosing Spondy when I was 39, then at age 40 I got Intersital cystitis. At first they tried everything on my bladder like DMSO, Elavil, and painful dilations. Now I just ignore my bladder problems until they get really bad. It is the urgency and frequency that really bother me the most. I am thinking of getting a new evaluation. I have tried the tnf's, but don't remember if they helped the bladder. What helps most is being very careful of what I drink. No cokes, or strong teas or coffee. Just drink herbal teas all day long. I have Sjogrens so I need to drink a lot. Also, dairy products can affect the urine flow. And of course always know where the nearest bathroom is. Most of us do a lot of research of each of our own illnesses. Education is key, plus trying different doctors. And lots of prayer. Hope you can find some answers. God Bless Priscilla
Guest guest
Hi Good to hear from you. My bladder issues go way back to age 18 when I had my first bladder infection. Don't know what they treated me with, probably antibiotics. Then after I was dx with Reiter's, I was dx with the Interstitial Cystitis at age 40. That was almost 24 years ago. They did horrible things to me then like dilating the urethra, then later DMSO treatments. Now that is considered dark ages treatment. I have not kept up with the latest treatments as it would mean more meds and side effects. Last time I went they told me about some new procedures. For me I watch what I eat and drink. If I am at home I will drink more things. But when I travel then it is only water, no tea, no coffee, no cokes, no milk or dairy. Over the years I have learned what to avoid. Also, whenever I take an antibiotic for sinus infections or any other infections, then my urine flow seems normal. So When I get back from this next trip (a wedding in California) I hope to see my urologist. I would love to do long term antibiotic treatments. How are your eyes holding up? Do you miss Arizona?? God Bless Priscilla
