Guest guest
Hmm, guess I don't have the same kind of Fibromyalgia as this girl does. Apparently you just take a pill, exercise and magically you feel fine again. I don't think so! lol I wonder if this is an ad for Lyrica. If so, it's sending out the wrong message. affter ; AFFTERMedicalNews CC: dominie ; friendswithfibro ; fmshmscfs From: shari23@...Date: Sun, 25 May 2008 11:13:40 -0500Subject: Watch Fibromyalgia Preview shari23@... wants to share this video with you:Personal MessageWatch DIscovery Channel for a program on Fibromyalgia!Fibromyalgia PreviewVideo:This program addresses the pathophysiology factors involved in the proper diagnosis and treatment options for fibromyalgia.http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1562587990/bctid1562643096
Guest guest
I have tried, and still do, everything the woman in the video clip has done. I question what drug she is promoting or whether she has Fibro or not. Guest guest
I agree this video sends the wrong message! The drug in question is "Cymbalta" I know because I take that pill and it looks just like that one! Go figure that it would be the drug companies who are suppose to help us in fact just hurt us. Because now they made the public think all we need is a magic pill. Gena
Guest guest
did you see the whole program or just the preview? > > I agree this video sends the wrong message! > > The drug in question is " Cymbalta " I know because I take that pill and it looks just like that one! > > > Go figure that it would be the drug companies who are suppose to help us in fact just hurt us. > > Because now they made the public think all we need is a magic pill. > > Gena >
Guest guest
Watched the preview - so the " cure " for fibro is to take 2 pills, exercise, get over it, and get on with your life??? So misleading!!! - Dom > > I agree this video sends the wrong message! > > The drug in question is " Cymbalta " I know because I take that pill and it looks just like that one! > > > Go figure that it would be the drug companies who are suppose to help us in fact just hurt us. > > Because now they made the public think all we need is a magic pill. > > Gena >
Guest guest
Those capsules that she was pouring into her hand--they are Cymbalta capsules. I'll bet somewhere during this program, we'll hear about Cymbalta. I was also surprised to hear that people over age 55 are not apt to get fibro, since I am 60. Still, I will catch the program and see if I learn anything new. Guest guest
I plan on watching the show also. I was not able to view the preview. A friend of mine did watch the preview. she said: " You should watch the show, if you can. Based on the preview, it looks like it'll have a good mix of personal stories from FM patients and info from docs about treatment options (yes, including meds, but that's just one option) and theories about where the illness comes from (probably including the new central nervous system theory). Guest guest
<<Clap, clap>> Thank you Sue… I agree with you. I was sad to find so many negative feelings come from the program… and not just in this group. I posted the link in a few groups and got the same reaction in almost all of them, except one. I almost forwarded the positive responses here, but I don’t have the energy nor the desire to push my opinion. (I spent two days working in my garden and am in a bunch of pain…) I personally was happy to see ANY press about fibro, particularly when it is specifically designed to educate medical professionals about the illness. Of course we know that there is no magic pill that can fix fibro, and I suppose it could have been interpreted that way, and the pharmaceutical companies would like to think that is the case. Yes, there are drug companies behind the program as sponsors and yes, some doctors do own stock in these companies. Is that morally correct – maybe not – BUT – these researchers (and some others) are all we have as far as advancing FMS research. Dr. Claw is one of the best out there and goes to bat for us with fibro in so many ways. Anyway, different opinions make the world go around and we are all entitled to our own. My opinion on the piece was mixed, but mostly happy that there was a program at all. I was interviewed for the piece myself and was thrilled that they were even doing a show on fibro. It turned out that I wasn’t chosen to be filmed because it wasn’t convenient for the camera crew to come here (or who knows what else… maybe because I don’t use the medications that were funding the program..??). But, I am happy that medical professionals and lay people will be seeing that program and will hear more about fibromyalgia. Awareness is a good thing, even if it isn’t perfect. I disagree. It goes to show you that you can not treat Fibro the same way for everyone, and that everyone responds differently to treatment. I have found some good things that really work. Being a mental health therapist I agree with alot they said. Cymbalta has helped me but is not the cure all for everyone. I also do physical therapy, massage, pace myself and take a positive attitude. I can still do alot of things, as opposed to looking at what I can't do. I am a personal trainer, and believe me, there are alot of moves I can't do. But I can pilates and many other modalities wh/ still helps the Fibro and fitness levels. So, how we view things, and the emotions we assign to it are HUGE. This crappy illness takes alot of time to accept and get used to learning how to deal with it individually. I have had huge fatigue issues since age 18...so it's not been an easy road for me at all.....I doubt it's ever an easy road for anyone. But I like how the one lady says she manages the Fibro. I have to choose to look at it like that, or I'd never get out of bed in the morning. Seriously. I feel like a mack truck hit me daily. I do agree the drug company was directly tied to the program wh/ could be problematic. However, I thought the fact that they educated the public regarding lack of certain neurotransmitters wh/ effect pain and mood was a positive. Many still don't get Fibro, and hopefully this program was helpful. It wasn't perfect...but I still think it was valuable. Also, I don't think any of the women they interviewed felt their road was easy. They all said it took alot of time and investment into their own self care. Plus tv tends to only focus on certain things said, so who knows what else they edited! Sue in DC/VA
Guest guest
Hi Shari, I think the negative feelings you were seeing from so many of us stemmed from the 'Preview'. It sent out the wrong message to the general public...something we are all trying so hard to avoid. Many of us haven't had access to the actual program. ine affter ; AFFTERMedicalNews From: shari23@...Date: Tue, 27 May 2008 12:42:07 -0500Subject: Re: Watch Fibromyalgia Preview <<Clap, clap>> Thank you Sue… I agree with you.
