Guest guest
Linolenic acid (LNA) in Flax is only converted in tiny amounts to EPA and DHA; aside from that, LNA has NO OTHER KNOWN USE in the body. On the other hand, DHA and EPA are used in stabilization of cell membranes and relatively large amounts are required. There is no LNA in cell membranes. The proof that LNA is NOT an essential fatty acid lies in breast milk; when the milk contains none at all but EPA and DHA are present the breast-fed baby survives and grows. So much for calling it an essential omega-3. We MIGHT call it conditionally essential if EPA and DHA are not present in the diet, but eating flax oil does NOT provide enough EPA and DHA to prevent brain deterioration for example to the degree that fish oil does. And to add insult to bad information, Flax also contains LA, which competes for the LNA conversion process. After reading Dr. Chilton's book Inflammation Nation I looked it all up and he is quite correct. Here's my Budwig Diet revision, which makes the same argument using Dr. Chilton's words: http://tinyurl.com/yjh9su Duncan Crow On 24 Dec 2006 at 14:49, Beck-blood- electrification Digest Number 1737 wrote: > Re: 78 year old cancer healed with 15 grams/day of dha & epa > Posted by: " r.mohr " r.mohr@... r.mohr > Date: Sun Dec 24, 2006 6:11 am ((PST)) > > The power of Omega 3 is amaizing, Flax Oil has the highest amount of > omega 3 than any other oil BTW.
