Guest guest
Does anyone know anything about a drug called Florinef? I have heard it has had some positive results treating CFIDS but I just wondered if anyone had tried it? Kaye

Guest guest
I have tried the fentanyl patch on several occasions. I had a lot of trouble with the patch staying on me even with extra adhesive. It didn't do much for my pain. I lived in Az then, and when it was very hot outside, the patch delived too much of the fentanyl and I got dizzy and stomach got very upset...so I was not happy with the patch at all..I'll stick with my oral meds...LOL Patti in NJ In a message dated 3/6/2008 11:22:41 A.M. Guest guest
Hi Chris I'm taking florinef. My aldosterone was in the normal range (though at the lower end) but when I started taking HC, I had a lot of very bad side effects (couldn't retain water, dizziness on standing, very low blood pressure) which weren't alleviated by increasing salt. According to my doctor, HC can lower levels of ACTH which in turn can affect the amount of aldosterone that gets produced so some patients need florinef as well as HC. Initially I wasn't keen at all as I had some bad headaches and eye pain. Also when you take it you have to add salt to your diet and I keep wondering about the long term risks of taking so much salt as I have other risk factors for cardiovascular disease. However with time, the headaches and eye pain have dissipated. The main effect for me is that the florinef helps keep my blood pressure stable and I feel more balanced taking it. Florinef also allows me to tolerate HC which in turn means I will be able to tolerate some armour (I hope!) Are you thinking of taking florinef? I'd recommend finding a doctor to supervise you if you do, as you need to be careful about electrolytes etc. as these need regular monitoring when on florinef. I also had a lot of problems in the beginning trying to find a balance between the florinef and the HC (which required advice from a doctor) but things are evening out now. enkai
Guest guest
Hi Enkai Thank you very much for your reply, it was very helpful. I'm sorry I was having a bad day when i read your reply and meant to come back to it later to say thanks etc but i forgot. How much florinef and hc did you take in the end? It does sound like it can be a delicate balance-espeically in the beginning. My problem is i'm kind of self treating so cannot easily get electrolyte tests etc. I will try to contact Dr P to see whether he thinks it is a good idea or not to take it the reason i was thinking of taking it is that although i'm on HC, and it's helped , i feel there is a 'missing link' somewhere, and i have problems with heat and cold intolerance, and sometimes get stars in front of my eyes when i stand, and bp sometimes drops by about 10 when i stand. i also don't seem very well able to tolerate thyroid. i did wonder whether i'm too low on potassium: hc lowers potassium, right? So too would florinef (even lower)? so that might make my problems worse if it is low potassium (which it could be, even with just HC). hmm...it's all a jigsaw puzzle isn't it. Thanks Chris
