Guest guest
Gena, I use ativan for sleep. I know I have been told that it is addictive and not used long term but I only take .5 mg and it is a huge help. If I miss one I have had had no adverse effect. I also used to take Neurontin. It was a huge help for my pain. I stopped taking it because I had a reaction after five years but most people are just fine on it. I am about to be put on Celebrex for pain. The feedback on here has been that is has been good for those who have been on it. I hope I have helped. Good luck! Sue From: Gena Lange <angellange@...>Subject: what meds may helpaffter Date: Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 5:32 PM Hi everyone, I was wondering if some of you guys had time if you'd like to share with me the medications and supplements you are taking and what they are for that have helped you. I am seeing a brand new Dr tomorrow and would like to see what may work for me. I am not sure yet of his knowledge on Fibro but was recommended him for my back. He is General Practice so of course will refer me out for my back. But just incase he is knowledgeable I would like to finally get started on some of the things that may help because I was unable to due to lack of health insurance. I now have full coverage of all Dr visits as well as prescriptions with no co-pay. So it's time to get this old body in shape. I have seen ya'll post several times about "Vitamin D" also something with letters in the name like TH5 or 3 something like that. I take 60 mg Cymbalta 1 x day 10 mg Flexeril 3 X day along with hydrocodone 10/650 mg 4 x day percocet as needed for severe pain I would like to get something for nighttime sleep. Of course I have all my regular meds for Thyroid and blood pressure. Any suggestions you have is wonderful but if you are tired or short on time please don't feel the need to reply. I for one know how it is to sit here in pain. Well tomorrow is my big day with the new Dr... wish me luck.. I am so excited. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about him. Thanks to all for support as I have been dealing with this back pain for past 6 months. Gena No virus found in this outgoing message. Guest guest
For sleep I use a suppository which contains, among other things, 5-htp. This product taken orally did absolutely nothing for my chronic unrelenting insomnia. Nothing worked until I found this. The product is called " Seratone " , made by the following company: HUMAN PERFORMANCE LABS HPLabs@... 2090 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. Suite 205 West Palm Beach, Florida 33409 Phone 561-682-1101 Fax 561-682-1172 The suppositories are very comfortable and easy to insert. I have been using them for 3 years and they continue to work for me beautifully. On top of enabling me to sleep they relieve my extreme anxiety a million times better than any other drug or supplement I tried.

Guest guest
One reason 5HPT may not work taken orally is it must be taken on an empty stomach. If taken with food it becomes an energy maker. This is from the web site that was posted on this site in the spring. The article was The Importance of a Good Night's Sleep. This article talked about every drug used for sleep and how it affects the the sleep cycle. A great article. I printed it off, but I don't have the website that was posted on. I have had problems taking 5hpt as it seemed to " rev " me up. But, I aways have to have a carb/protein snack before bedtime. but, I have taken it during the day for calmness and I think it does work. It would be interesting to explore 5HPT as it is so much more " cheap' than the drugs. Elaine > > > > For sleep I use a suppository which contains, among other things, > > 5-htp. Guest guest
Here is the website about getting a good nights sleep and 5htp. I had put my email address on this site to have the article sent, The Importance of a Good Night's Sleep, and the article was sent to me. There is a protocol for taking the sleep aid 5htp. http://www.fibromyalgiacfsstore.com/currentdefs.html Elaine > > > > > > For sleep I use a suppository which contains, among other things, > > > 5-htp. Guest guest
I'm not at all qualified to address this issue - Dr. Cafarelli is! What I have previously said is that the suppositories that I use called " Seratone " which have 5-HTP in them (Plus many other co-factors) work great because they are absorbed through the rectal mucosa directly into the blood stream Apparantly oral 5htp undergoes PREMATURE conversion in the bloodstream and it doesn't make it into the brain. Dr Cafarelli tried to explain some of the chemistry behind this but my eyes just kind of glazed over. The man has it figured out and there is a reason the the oral 5-htp can rev a person up. I know it didn't relax me at all, not even during the day so it was a leap of faith for me to try the suppository form which has absolutely changed my life for the good. Comparing the oral to the suppository is kind of like comparing a miniature schnauzer to a Great Dane - both dogs, but not the same STRENGTH or size and the SERATONE is the BIG DOG Thats my unscientific version. The best thing to do if a person wants to try this product is to schedule a consult with Dr Cafarelli - the man WILL NOT RIP YOU OFF. I know some many of us have been through the mill - This was my last hurrah and thank God it worked. Here is Dr. Cafarelli's contact information - and again, I don't get paid anything for this - its a labor of love actually. Its impossible to have a decent quality of life without the blessing of sleep. I have this theory that if all the world got enough sleep there would be no more wars. Guest guest
When I suggested scheduling a consult with Dr. Cafarelli I meant PHONE consult - you don't have to go there, although I did originally. I think he charges $200.00 which is nothing compared to all the money I've unloaded on Doctors that happily made my wallet lighter and did nothing for me. You can also try the products without a consult, but if you are on other medications etc., its a good idea to schedule a one.
