Guest guest
, I was told to not take any NSAIDS 5 days prior to my dental appts. It causes more bleeding. I often take Motrin for pain so this is hard for me. When I had my teeth cleaned a few months ago I had taken Motrin 3 days before and they had a horrible time with my teeth bleeding. As others, they have to give me a higher dose of novocaine because a normal one does not work on me. They also wait about 10 min longer than the average person for it to take effect. I remind them. Research from today. Always use a salt and warm water solution or diluted hydrogen peroxide rinse after visiting the dentist. Helps to keep infection down. Anytime they go in(esp with teeth cleaning), they are stirring the germ pot. Infection cannot always be seen or felt. If having trouble with sensitivity, pockets and gingivitis(which causes teeth issues) it is good to irrigate with salt water after brushing at night. Just be careful to not swallow. Always a good idea to get your own dentist's opinion. Everyone is different. If you are like me, the novocaine takes a long time to take effect. Guest guest
I'm 50 and I didn't have novacaine when I had my fillings done either as a child--I hate dentists!! I squeeze the arms of the chair even when I'm getting my teeth cleaned. There are some shisters out there who will tell you that you need fillings even when you don't. I found that out with my daughter, took her to another dentist after I was told she had a bunch of cavities and the new doc told me she didn't need all those fillings. Deb Halvorson [CHRISTINA-777] Re: Fibro and Bad Teeth Can the dentist administer nitrous oxide (gas)? I have to have that for any dental work now, thanks to dental phobia from being drilled on without novocaine for fillings in childhood. Also, the doc can use a numbing gel before giving the shot. I still feel it, but with nitrous, you just "don't care." It makes you feel kind of "floaty" or something. My mother can't handle nitrous, but it is the only way I can have dental work done. Ask your doc about taking Aleve first, because it might thin the blood or something... .I'm not a doc, just guessing - also maybe something like ativan for anxiety? - Dom Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile.
