Guest guest
I have my vivtar 1900 home made Pulsar and with freshly charged 2100 mah nimh batteries or Alkaline AA's it doesn't seem to kick a metal paper clip more that 1/2 " to 1 " off of a plastic bag covering my coil of wire, which by the way says " AMS Enterprises 2.5 MH " it measures 2.75 " x 7/8 " thick. Do the flashes lose strength over time??? Should I resolder the connections? I did not secure the lamp cord / wire coil solder joint to anything, I see folks on ebay strapping the deal down to a wooden spoon etc. Has anyone sent their homemade rig off to SOTA for testing?? Any tips suggestions are welcome. Thanks, New Guy
Guest guest
Try this: get a 1/4 " metal washer from any hardware store and place it inside the coil. Stand back and pulse coil. Washer should jump up rapidly (watch your eyes!!!). A paper-clip just does not have enough metal in it to respond. See if this works...Russ > > I have my vivtar 1900 home made Pulsar and with freshly charged 2100 > mah nimh batteries or Alkaline AA's it doesn't seem to kick a metal > paper clip more that 1/2 " to 1 " off of a plastic bag covering my coil > of wire, which by the way says " AMS Enterprises 2.5 MH " it measures > 2.75 " x 7/8 " thick. > > Do the flashes lose strength over time??? Guest guest
How far should the washer jump? I think you mean a fender washer with a 1/4 " hole? I tried it again with 3 paper clips and they all jumped away and spun quite dramatically so... perhaps its working but I will dig up a bigger washer and see if its getting at least 4 or more inches in travel. Guest guest
Yes, a fender washer!! If put in the centre of the coil of our MP5 Magnetic Pulser, a fender washer will jump about 8 feet up and travel in an arc about 15 feet. You can see me demonstrating this in one of the Beck videos out there (don't have a link to it, but it is the one from Daytona Beach at the Global Sciences show).
