Guest guest
Thanks for writing, . I hope you are doing okay after all your fusions. I still can't get over the fact that we had our last operations within a few days of each other--same hospital, same surgeon--and never actually got to met each other! I think of you often, though, and wish you well . . . . Eliana Disability Dear Patty and Donna, I live in Maine and in 1993 I applied for disability 2 months before my first revision surgery with the idea that I would be out about a year and I'd never be able to go back to nursing. I knew that if I had disability they would help me retrain for something else. It never occurred to me that I would have 6 more surgeries and that I would be this disabled. Anyway, at first they denied it and I had to get a lawyer and set a dare for a hearing. About 1 week before the hearing my lawyer called and said that they had accepted it and that I would get 11 months back payments. When I finally got the check it was only for 6 months. For some reason that I don't understand, they were legally able to keep the first 6 months. That was a real shock and disappointment because I had planned to use it all on bills. What I get for a monthly check is only what I would earn for 3 days of work. After 1 year they reevaluated me, then after that it was 2 years and now it is every 3 years. Considering all we scoliosis patients have to go thru, I don't see how we can be denied. Best wishes, Adult scoliosis support; focus on fixed sagittal imbalance. Guest guest
My asthma is severe to the point I must carry a nebuliser with me at all times and have difficulty in even walking short distances. There is never a day goes by that I don’t have to use ventolin. The older I get the worse the asthma seems to get and the allergist can’t find anything I’m allergic to. Guest guest
I’m 58 and have had Samters since 1979 and yes it was approved because of the asthma as I’ve had that since 1974. No it wasn’t difficult to get, and in fact I had no idea at the time that asthma would qualify me but after the GP with that department checked through everything, told me I should be on it. Believe me I was quite surprised. Although I’d much prefer to be back working, it’s just not an option as I get so tired during the day that I often sleep for a few hours. Guest guest
Is it common for folks with Spondylitis to have intermittent symptoms for some time before the condition reaches a chronic stage? I know there were a few years where I would be walking around like I was 80 years old for a period of time and then I would be completely fine for a few months. Even now, being treated with Remicade, it's like some infusions wear off sooner than others. Thanks, Carol Lee
