Welcome to the group!

1300 calories sounds much too low for a 6' male esp one who is just starting

out. I would suggest starting by eliminating 100 or 200 cal at a time.

This is not a race. Also see our file: " CR Made Easy " under " BEGINNING

CRON " .

How old are you? Cr should be less extreme at older ages.

What is " Zoo " ?

Hi Tom, 1300 calories is not CRON, its a crash diet for a male your

height and in time you will get some serous side effects (libido

might vanish etc) and may cause harm to your body. And most crash

diets fail as the mind and body soon rebel and you end up where you

started. If you are in this for the long term, then take it easy and

you will get there safely.

You might not feel hungry as your body is eating its fat reserves,

but how long has that fat been their ? - if its years then it will

be full of toxins gathered from junk foods/environment and these

will be released quicker into your body the more severe the weight

loss is. At 1300 cals you will probably loose at least two pounds a

week, possibly a good bit more and your liver and kidneys then have

to process and eliminate those fats and toxins putting a great

burden upon them. If you make a rough guess of your original calorie

intake and then minus 200 calories a day you will loose roughly a

pound every two weeks, until you reach a plateau and loose no more,

then cut another two hundred calories and wait to you reach the next

plateau. I cut 500 calories a day at one point and lost a pound a

week, but it was only for a short time, you may be waiting months

until you settle on a new weight and calorie level, so too fast will

certainly be too dangerous.

By loosing weight slowly your body will gradually adapt to fewer

calories and inevitably you will start including more health foods

in your diet. If I were you I would create a diet with natural foods

I liked that give me the RDA for all vits and minerals

(http://www.crnusa.org/about_recs.html) and then add more calories

if need be so your total is 200 less than your normal intake. (I

might be tempted to cut 500 cals a day for say four weeks just to

get the ball rolling and give me a mental boost, then I would slow

it down, at 1300 cals are you really getting all your RDA's ?)

Agreed...

While this is an unconventional concept there has been some speculation that

Olestra the fake fat used in some snack foods may be useful in binding to

fat soluble toxins released during adipose reduction. So as strange as this

sounds, some fake fat potato chips may be of value at least in the short

term. Since they will also bind to fat soluble vitamins it might not hurt to

target 2x RDA for those.

Good luck and take your time.

I was under the impression that "fake" fat is not absorbed, so if it doesn't get into the blood stream how would it effect adipose?

just wondering.

Regards.

AFAIK fake fat does not get absorbed. I recall from a recent thread about cholesterol we discussed how the body uses stored/circulating fats to make bile (cholesterol?) or other digestive actors. It's not to hard to imagine that during energy deficit, toxin laden adipose tissue would get broken down and some of these toxins could find their way into the alimentary where they would encounter the olestra .

T posted this study to the other list a while back.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=pubmed & dopt=Abstract & list_uids=15513954

I am not a huge fan of ingesting man made non-foods, and am no longer in a weight loss mode, but this looked promising at least for rats. :-)
