I take Tamazapam, 15 MG at bedtime. It works for me almost all the time. On the nights when I don't feel like it's working, I add 50 MG of Tramadol. I haven't had a problem since I started taking these meds, about 9 months now.

Sleep meds

Just curious about what sleep meds work for you? I have been on 5-10 mg of ambien (not CR which lasts too long in my system and makes me feel awful the next day) for over 10 years. (The generic zolpidem is cheaper.) I also now take have to take 10 mg of lorazepam (generic ativan) to get back to sleep when I wake up in the middle of the night. I tried Lunesta, but after a few days it didn't seem to work anymore. We are all so different with our sleep problems. In the old days before the new sleep meds came out, my docs kept prescribing me antidepressants and they made me feel horrible!!! My insomnia story is at http://www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm I was 16 when my sleep problem began (that was 40 years ago). - Dom

> Dominie;

My Dr put me on elavil 25 milligrams at night. some nights

it works other times it doesn't.I am such a light sleeper with hat and

my earplugs in ( will get Hearos today or tomorrow)m I still hear

stuff. I don't want to go up to 50 at all. I also have cut out caffeine

too and no scary shows or suspense novel readings etc either. I tend to

relax some too a warm bath with lavender in it . then hot a cup of

bedtime tea and watch the news soon s the weather is off to bed. I do

like to read then hubby gets a shower and hits the bed too. But some

nights I wake up middle of night or don't go to bed till 1 or 2 am.I am

also on liptor 40 milligrams and 1 or 2 gabapentin depending on how

much i am hurting.I am trying not to take so many of those. But that is

what i take for sleep and it works sometimes other times it doesn't.

I have a friend who is on Lunesta CR and it works for her.But as we all

know what works for one might not work for the other one. hugs Heidi

I take 30 mg of Elavil & 150 mg of

Trazadone, Accompanied by 2 additional antidepressants and Neurontin for

migraines.

I am in the

same situation as Pam. I wake in the

middle of the night and can’t fall

back to sleep or get a lousy Fibrosleep and am exhausted. I don’t know which is

worse the fatigue or the pain.

I would give anything for a good nights

rest and no pain in the morning. Maybe

the Fibro Fairy is reading this ,if

so I wish, I wish I wish……J

I take 2.5 mg of amitriptyline 2 hours before bedtime. Works great right now. I used to take 5 mg. Flexeril and it worked for a while, but now it gives me nightmares and makes me extremely groggy in the morning. Melatonin also gave me nightmares and restless sleep when I tried it.------------------------------------------------Posted by: "Dominie Bush" dombush@... dominiebush Sun Jun 1, 2008 9:19 pm (PDT) Just curious about what sleep meds work for you? Lunesta 1.5mgs, benedryl, & tylenol. I used 2.5 mgs. ambien and had terrible response to it like hearing loud crashing noises in the night--which was my imagination.

Last night I took Lorazipam (spelling ?) and a 3 mg melatonin--I got 5 hours of sleep, then got up and took two Benedryl so I could get 3 more hours of sleep. Sleeping pills work at first and then quickly become very ineffective. I bounce back and forth between sleeping pills, Benedryl and Nyquil. My sleep doctor is sending me to sleep phsychologist---I'd like a sleep psychologist to figure out how Fibro people are supposed to be able to sleep, haven't seen them do it so far, and I'm even on a CPAP machine, which does help. At least I get more sleep than I used to.

Hi everyone,

I have tried a lot of sleep meds and yes, I think we fmser's need

them. I have a real tough time if I don't get enough sleep. I have

been on Sonata, ambien and have settled on Lunesta. The problem is

with Lunesta, it is still very expensive, and the patent doesn't run

out on 2012 I believe. but, I do not have any kind of hang-over with it

like I did with the others. I have tried natural ones and they don't

work at all. It seems Lunesta shuts down my active mind.

to answer your question about doctors. I see a D.O. who practices

family medicine and also knows a lot about supplements and nutrition.

I think these kind of doctors are hard to find. I have never seen a

rhuematologist and have no desire to do so. I am doing really well

with my dr.'s treatment. he also lets my try things I have learned

from others on support groups. he will even look it up on the computer

while in the treatment room to see what he thinks.

I take Flexeril 5mg, Ativan 0.5mg, and one of the 5HTP from Natrol, I

don't know the actual dosage.

bit of hangover, but also greatly reduces the amount of Soma I take

during daylight hours. I sleep well, and am rested when I get up. I do

often sleep 9-10 hours a night, which seems to really help with the

other symptoms of fatigue and fogginess.

I take ambien and soma 4 nights a week and 1.5 mg of klonopin with an over the counter sleep aid the other 3 so I don't develop a tolerance to either. I still have problems sleeping. I tried lunesta and it gave me a funky heartbeat, flexeril made my heart beat very rapidly, and remeron and restoril did nothing for me. I have been on large doses of sedating antidepressants which gave me intolerable side effects so I gave up on them. This Wednesday I go in for my third sleep study, which I feel is a waste of time, but I like my doctor who wants to badly to help me. It has been 3 years since the last one and in that time I had sinus surgery so he wants to take another look. I do not have sleep apnea but I get no deep sleep and have dozens of arousals each hour of sleep (this is alpha intrusions into delta sleep). If you don't have sleep apnea they don't know how to treat you!
