Guest guest
The Ornish diet is a vegan diet which may not be suitable foreverybody.TonyTony, first let me say that I admire your response up to this last line. The Ornish diet is "a" not a vegan diet at any level. He suggests 1 cup of skim milk per day, some egg whites per week, and 3 grams of fish oil. He recommends this at his most restrictive level. The fish oil is an addition of the last several years. He now also recommends one serving daily of full fat soyfood. However, ornish has always described his program, including exercise, yoga, and meditation as a continuum. He recommends lipid testing, and adjusting the amount of saturated fat, animal protein, and cholesterol intake to total cholesterol, and ldl cholesterol. His stated position is that if your tc is below 150, keep doing what you're doing. Make changes as suggested to reduce it to that level. In any case he recommends 3 or more hours weekly of walking, and about 20 minutes a day of yoga, plus a couple of meditation sessions daily. The patients who followed his complete program showed the most reversal of vascular obstruction. He also recommended mindful eating and describes how to do it. He recommends never eating unless hungry, and always stopping when just satisfied, not full. This is, of course, mild cr. The best exposition of his program was in his first book. I have and have read all of them carefully, howeverl. There is a pretty good presentation of his current program (changed as mentioned above) at ornish.com. I greatly enjoy your posts. Thank you.
