Guest guest
-- Thanks Elaine. The last doctor I went to in my area (a few weeks ago) was a neurosurgeon and my hope was to do the same as you did. However, he wasn't willing to follow me b/c he felt sure there'd be a qualified surgeon at Emory in Atlanta. But hearing that you found someone willing to do that gives me hope, so thanks for the feedback. And I've heard nothing but praise about Dr. Ondra. I'm glad you were able to go to him. If I just keep my head up and keep doing the foot work, I'll end up right where I'm supposed to be......(sounds good anyway!!!). camille - In , elaine Mackey <shevfar@...> wrote: > > Camille: > While you are looking for a doctor in your area have you looked at neurosurgeons. I did have revision surgery with Dr. Ondra and the doctor here followed me when I got back. I think a relly good surgeon should know his limits and be willing to refer you on. > Elaine > > > > update > > The Pain Relief Center was a blow-out. Guest guest
For what it's worth, I haven't had much need to see anybody other than Dr Bridwell. It is only an 8 hour drive, so it hasn't been too bad getting to see him every 3 - 4 months for the first year. I did fall one day and it scared me, so I went to the orthopedic doctor I had been seeing for a shoulder problem just to let him look and be sure that I hadn't broken or loosened anything. Dr Bridwell's nurse had told me that I was unlikely to have damaged anything, but I felt better after having the shoulder guy take a look. > >> > As a follow-up from my previous postings, searching for a revision > specialist. Guest guest
Camille, Congrats on making that appt, and I hope that you like Dr Hey. I've heard very nice things about his personality, as well as his expertise. It may be wise to ask for patient referrals if you'd like to talk to some of his patients who have also been thru this. If, after you see him, you are still wanting another opinion, I would highly recommended an opinion here in Chicago with Dr Ondra or his partner Dr Koski. If you are interested in making an appointment, please let me know. If you just call the office, it is about a 6- month wait time to get in, but if you send in a copy of an xray report (and maybe a short note explaining your symptoms), you can usually get into their complex spine clinic usually in 1-3 weeks time, depending on their schedule. Good luck with your appt in March, be sure to let us know how it goes! > > Hi, it's Camille again. I have an appt. with Dr.Lloyd Hey in Raleigh, > NC on March 14. Guest guest
Hey all Im catching up sorry for the delay! I went to my treating dr because I needed a referral for the new pain mgmt dr. When I told my treating dr what happened post-op, he was very upset. In fact, he was the one who told me the scs wasn't a good idea, that I should try more conservative measures first. He said he didn't want to say I told you so, but..... Oh, and what happened yesterday. I went to get my staples out, I was happy because I thought I would feel so much better once I got them out. So I get there and the PA took my staples out and I mentioned to him that I didn't want to go back to the pm that referred me to him because of how they treated me post-op. He said he had to talk to the office. Basically I said I was looking for a new pm and all I needed from them was post-op care while I was looking. He came back and said they didn't feel comfy taking me because they didn't want to make my pm mad because that's where they get their referrals. They were making such a big deal out of post op care, I told them not to worry because I would find another pm. Then the dr told the pm that they would see me but if they did he would be withdrawing all of my meds asap, I wouldn't be treated like other patients, that's all he would do. I mentioned the rsd in my arm and that I would need something, albeit not everything I am on now. I also mentioned how the cymbalta helped me and I wished to stay on it. He said, sorry we will take you off everything and we wont look at your arm because that's not what you came here for. Then he said I could get a cervical stim from them. For one, it was like I was being punished for not wanting to go back to Dr H, they wouldn't even examine me or treat me like other patients. I also felt like they were trying to deter me from staying with them. Grr, I felt so little like I was doing something wrong because I didn't feel comfy with my pm anymore. I could not believe the treatment I received, I was getting program readjustments and I was just sitting there crying. I asked about my post-op care and basically, even though they implanted the stim, they wouldn't touch me anymore. So I have no one for post-op care now. Ugh. I feel so used, I feel like these people just wanted to implant an expensive device and then they wanted to do away with me. Although I am enjoying the stim because I can walk without pain, I am only receiving 50% relief, when the stim offered 75%. Why didn't any dr ask what kind of pain I had? No one asked me what relief I was receiving, they all assumed I was getting 100% relief because I had a stim and thought I shouldn't need pain relief in any form. Are you kidding me? So I have been stressed, sorry Im venting! Thanks for listening, Im so lucky to have so many friends! Hugs,
Guest guest
They are REQUIRED to treat you now that they have taken you as a patient by LAW!!!! They cannot get rid of you unless they send you a written notice and give you 30 days to find another doctor. They are required to treat you until that time. I would tell them they would be hearing from my attorney due to them refusing me medical treatment due to the fact I did not want to continue with their cohort. That is medical malpractice! Even if you do not even have an attorney and believe me you can get one for no money up front for something like this, they will sit up and take notice and do something for you! The last thing a dr's office wants to hear is that someone is about ready to sue them. They turn on all the charm and do everything they can to keep it from happening. Dr's do not want their malpractice insurance to increase premiums on them and they will if they get a case. Even if it is settled out of court! I would call an attorney in the morning and see what they recommend. I would also call the office and tell them you are consulting an attorney due to them refusing you care after they operated on you and that they will be hearing from him so expect it! You will get some results then! Re: Update Hey all Im catching up sorry for the delay! I went to my treating dr because I needed a referral for the new pain mgmt dr. Guest guest
Great news and I am very glad that you were able to find someone who was willing to work with you! I know from my own experience it takes some doing to find someone who will take the extra time and patience to really work with chronic pain patients period. Update Hey everyone. I'm so excited. I saw my physical therapist Monday and my leg is slowly getting stronger. My PT tested the strength in my RSD leg and I had almost made it to the goal he had set. It has taken several years to get there and I still can't walk without crutches, but at least things seem to be improving. My therapist doesn't know if I'll ever get off crutches, but seeing improvements gives us hope. I'm now on 6 month appointments with my pain management doctor and orthopedic and my physical therapist only sees me every three to four months now. I have all the equipment at home that I use at therapy, so he doesn't see a reason for me to drive two hours to see him. As long as I don't show signs of muscle loss, I don't have to go see him as often. I probably pass 8-10 physical therapy places on my way to see my PT but I've flunked out of all of them. I don't know if anyone else has had this experience, but I've seen over a dozen physical therapist and this is the first one who hasn't given up on me. The other physical therapists gave up because progress was so slow because of the RSD. I've been seeing this PT two hours from home for 6-8 years. He seems more like family now than a physical therapist.

Guest guest
I love water therapy. The only problem is getting there. The nearest indoor pool is an hour away. During the summer I do exersize in the pool though. My primary care doctor has an inground pool and I'm welcome to use it anytime I want. > > Have you ever tried exercising your leg in the water? Guest guest
Hi Kim, As I had mentioned, my son-in-law was attacked by 5 men. When the police arrived, he was unconscious and they thought he was dead. So, I guess this is procedure, they immediately called out a detective who, after checking the attack location, met the ambulance at the hospital. He was not dead, and it is unclear to us whether they had to bring him back several times in the ambulance and the ER, we are getting conflicting reports. But they did not expect him to survive and the detective stayed and collected all his possessions & clothing hoping for evidence if he did not survive. That explains why my daughter was not contacted for 10 hours (even though I would think the detective would have looked thru his cell phone and tried some numbers.....he has his home # in there listed as " home " since my daughter works and he has multiple #'s for her. But that's behind us. When we arrived at the hospital, he was in Trauma ICU on a ventilator breathing for him and they let us in even though visiting hrs were over. His face was completely unrecognizable, the doctor said his injuries on his face looked consistent with his already being on the ground and being repeatedly kicked in the face. They originally thought he had multiple broken bones in his face but his nose was completely shattered and the pieces were spread throughout is face. He had plastic surgery Friday. At that point, they were saying they were going to try to wean him off the ventilator and once removed he only had to stay 12 hours. We all know things don't go as planned, when they would try to lower the vent he would start to crash. And then over the weekend, they did not tell us this until Monday, when they would stop the sedation, he was completely unresponsive, prior to surgery, he would respond with a thumbs up/down to questions. I've gone on too long, I know you all don't want to read this. But they did get him off the ventilator yesterday and he woke up, but there are new problems. They now say there could be brain damage. Sometimes he can communicate, sometimes he can't. My daughter just called me about an hour ago and he can not stand up, he is disoriented, and they are telling her (now) that his brain is bruised, he has some memory loss and they obviously can't release him until he can stand. I told her to check to see if he can be transferred to a hospital up here by Dallas. And to call her insurance to see if they have home nursing care. I am sick that I had to leave her. She runs out of leave Friday. I don't know if his cousins have managed to reopen his restaurant. It's just one thing after another. They have a house payment, all the regular bills we all have, they can't have no income. She needs to get back to work and her baby doesn't understand where mommy is. The good news, they do know who did it. But I was shocked that they haven't arrested them. My son-in-law has to identify them and say he wants to press charges. I think that is ridiculous!!! But, that's the law I guess. And it turned out to be 5 guys with shaved heads who are members of the Aryan group down there (they hate everyone who is not like them). My son-in-law is European. Wrong place, wrong time. But things are changing with him it seems hourly, so who knows. But I appreciate any and all prayers at this time. But I am ready to receive emails. I need something to take my mind off the current problems. I am glad to be back, but I hated to leave my daughter alone. Guest guest
It sounds as if your whole family has gone through more than any one should. I am glad that your son in law is making progress. I am no expert but from what I remember about recovering from head wounds and brain trauma, people could go back and forth a bit in the recovery process. Sort of like one step forward two steps back. I know my dad when he had his brain tumor removed surgically had a hard time recovering. His behavior would be fine one minute and bizarre the next. We never know what he was going to do. It made things really hard for all of us. I know it has to be so frustarting to your whole family wondering why on earth anyone would hurt and do to another human being what has been done to him. I cannot understand why on earth the cops have to wait until he is able to press charges? That makes NO sense as it sounds like that could be attempted murder which is a felony in any state and can be prosecuted without the victims consent. I will continue to pray and send up healing thoughts for you and your family. Kim Please remove me from " No Mail " Hi All, I am back, arrived Sunday evening. I had to return, my physical condition deteriorated so bad down in Beaumont, I just can not watch my 2 year old grandson without assistance. I had a pain mgt appt yesterday, but canceled because the roads were bad. I really needed to go (need a shot in both knees really bad), but I rescheduled for Thursday. Guest guest
Thank you so much Kim. I agree about the charges.....it was definitely attempted murder, but they are only calling it aggravated assault!! Unbelievable. And you're right, my daughter said one time he wakes up and is calm and knows where he is and what is going on,and other times he wakes up and is angry and doesn't understand what is going on. He did describe the 5 men to my daughter and the detective is bringing photos for him to look at and hopefully identify. But he is so frustrated because he claims it happened in one place (which was across town and could never have happened) and doesn't believe the true story. I just talked to my daughter about 10 minutes ago and she is hoping tomorrow he will show some improvement. I know I will never feel safe outside alone after dark again.....fortunately that rarely happens with me. Guest guest
Hey ! I am so sorry that you have so much on your plate between your daughter and you mom. I will certainly keep them both in my thoughts and prayers, especially tomorrow for your Mom's surgery. Know that I am here for you. I know the wonderful feeling that I got from just being able to vent to some of my buddies here in the group. I think that sometimes it is easier for us to chat with eachother here, then with our loved ones, as we don't want to worry our loved ones more and we can truly relate to one another's pain and frustration, you know? Hang in, . Gentle hugs to you an all. I wish for us all pain free days and sleep filled nights. Love, Kathy G. Group Co-Owner **************New year...new news. Guest guest
My daughter lives by Dallas. Her husband was in Beaumont because he had a cousin there with a restaurant and the cousin wanted to start another one because his was doing so well. My son-in-law had tried one up here but it failed. So he went down there to start a new restaurant. So he has an apartment down there, but they still have a house up here. I don't know what is available down there or even up here for that matter. My daughter is a teacher and I doubt they would qualify for assistance. I mean, they need it, because they are supporting 2 households right now, but you know how those agencies are....if you have an income they don't want to help you. I'm waiting to hear from her, she was going to check about getting him back up here so she could go to work, but I don't know if they would allow him to change hospitals or how they would get him up here. She just doesn't want to leave him. I spoke with her last night and told her she might not have any choice. I don't mean to sound cruel, but her 2 yr old is having a rough time with this whole thing and she needs to work. I told her if they couldn't release him because more problems keep popping up, she is going to have to explain to him when he is having a lucid moment that she has to leave. We all do things that are difficult, things we don't want to do, but we have to do what we need to survive. As far as I know, he is no longer in danger of passing, and her baby needs her AND she needs to get back to work. I expect to hear today what she plans to do. It's looking like she is going to have her hands full though. My mother has her surgery tomorrow on a tumor which they are saying is 50/50 chance of cancer. My stimulator is acting up. Where is it all going to end? Take Care, B. in TEXAS ________________________________ From: " crittersrose87@... Guest guest
HI, Kim! I am sorry that you had to endure the rudenss and unprofessionalism of yet another uncaring, heartless and moranic doctor. It really gets me so angry since there are so many loving and wonderful docs out there....and unfortunately just as many idiots who have a diploma....who actually had the nerve to recite the medical oath " to first do no harm " ..what a damned joke to some of them! you really must feel lied to. I am sorry for that...God knows that we all have enough going with the physical pain we must endure day to day....we sure do not need nor desire to have our " healers " be verbally and emotionally abusive to us!!!! hang in, Kim. When I read your answers to folks posts, or read you heart -warming and touching letters to those of us having a bad day...it really makes me happy and smile...you are a real sweetheart. You certainly deserve BETTER than this, Kim. We are all here for eachother....no matter how we are feeling....we all try to make the other person feel better...and you have a real knack for it, Kim. My mom had the same problem with meds that you are having now...I will ask her what she did to get it resolved. OMG...You are so right about the cold.....brrrrr....It is freezing...which is the worst for us right now...isnt't it?!?!?! Try to stay toasty warm and comfy cozy! Gentle hugs to you and all kathy G.
