But cardio is far more important that pancreatic cancer. That's why 80mg is rec'd.

I'm not for or against anything for everyone, but I do take an 80mg - that in preference to Plavix. Not knocking plavix either - I just don't like what it does to me.

As I recall aspirin has pros and cons per the recent link. You refer to:

Aspirin Use May Be Associated With Increased Risk Of Pancreatic Cancer (January 7, 2004) -- Active smoking appears to play a larger role in the development of breast cancer than previously thought, according to a study in the January 7 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer ... > full story

But ALSO:

Aspirin May Help Prevent Pancreatic Cancer (August 7, 2002) -- Researchers at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health have found that aspirin use may decrease the incidence of pancreatic cancer, possibly through its anti-inflammatory effects. The ... > full story

"There is strong evidence to suggest that using aspirin may help in preventing pancreatic cancer, and what's most encouraging is that we've seen these benefits in women who've taken aspirin two to five times per week," said . "Based on these observations, we estimate that aspirin use might prevent 43 percent of pancreatic cancer cases in women who do not normally use aspirin. While these results are promising, further studies are necessary to learn more about other factors; such as dose, duration, and types of NSAIDs that may help prevent this disease."

More important, IMO, is another recent post:

Nowit appears that such drugs may help men with prostate cancerlive longer.

I can't tell if you are for or against the prophylatic use of aspirinbut I can say chronic aspirin ingestion has been linked to increasedrisk of pancreatic cancer.> Yes, aspirin is obvious to me a powerful medicine, one reason Ithink so is that plavix articles now say to use aspirin with it isbetter than plavix alone (I don't like plavix). In general aspirin is a blood thinner and anti-inflammatory (anti-pyretic, etc). Obesity increases inflammation level. Garbage diet clogs arteries. I don't doubt aspirin is helpful to the general population who is 63% or more overweight.

This advise is not aimed at JW who seems well aware of his personal circumstances. Only you know your personal diet and BMI, so please look out for the bias toward magic pill based solutions to all problems real and imagined. If you don't know precisely why you're taking a supplement how can you expect a specific result? That said I believe nutritional deficiencies are important and supplementation is sometimes the best short term remedy. Long term I favor whole foods.
