That is amazing organization. I have phengran on hand because of

stomach issues, if can lay down, then take one. Thanks for the earplug

advice, that has not even crossed my mind. I also have to watch what

cleaning products use now.

Not sure if anyone else experiences this but my eyes stay dry ALOT, so

keep eye drops here at home, and in my purse. Noticed have an increase

in sinus issues, maybe a few allergies. YEAH!!!

Hi Kathy..I suffered a good deal of hair loss as well due to thyroid problems.

The only thing that helped turn it around for me was a digestive enzyme supplement

with HCI betaine in it, and extra niacin. I have not had much luck getting the color

back...but it no longer falls out by the handful, and I do have new growth.

What do your thyroid labs look like? Can you post them? Don't forget to add celtic salt and vit c to your list of supplements for iodine support. Have you taken the antibiotic for that mycoplasma infection. My Dr. uses one that makes a huge difference. There is one patient I met last year that was in a wheelchair and is no longer sick. She goes rollerblading now.

As for how long.... I don't know. It depends on what your thyroid levels look like on Armour. You may need more thyroid medication. Iodine may boost you to what you need but then again it may not. Selenium, magnesium, l-tyrosine, Vit A , Zinc and more are needed by the thyroid. You can read them all on my website www.naturalthyroidchoices.com

Hi I just joined this group. I got my first bottle of iodoral this week and am starting with 2 pills a day. I am borderline low thyroid and taking 60mg of armour, also taking bio-HRT, vit D, minocycline and other supplements. I have Rhuematoid arthritis from a mycoplasma infection. I am wondering how long it would take before i might see my hair and nails get better? Ive been on the armour for a year now and still can not grow any nails. My hair is better than it was but still breaks off very easily, I always have hair in my sink after brushing it. thanks Kathy

HI, yes Im on the antibiotic for mycoplasma, and it has worked wonders for me too. I can do just about everything I used to do (including riding my horse) my most recent blood tests are back but I have to go pick them up, so i dont know what then thyroid tests look like just yet. I take many supplements also includeing C and multi vit, D, milk thistle, biotin, geletin, probiotics, etc.. when i get the results Ill let you know. I was really hoping the D and thyroid would fix me up, althought they did help alot, they didnt help my hair or nails (or weight) so I did just do an adrenal test and am hoping the iodoral will do something. Kathy,

For your hair and nails, you might investigate silica. I just recently started (30 days) adding biotin and silica to s Iodine and supplement protocol and am seeing some results. Just a suggestion.

It would depend on what your children are suffering with. My children are hypothyroid so we give them selenium. We also give them B-Vitamins, Vit D, Fish Oils, B12 and a probiotic. My 7 and 9 year old both take 12.5 mgs Iodoral.

NEw here

HI I'm new here. I've read here that I can give Lugol drops to the kids (12yo 70lbs, 8yo 50 lbs and 3yo 24 lbs) Should I do any other supplementation for the kids to help with iodine? In addition to their vitamin tab or in place of? I saw the protocol for adults and didnt' know if there was one for kids as well. Anything to watch out for in the kids? I just ordered the drops and the tablets for myself and was going to start the kids on it when I saw how it affected me.ThanksStacie

No they were fine. They have been on thyroid meds since Feb '07. They were low in iron and B12 and I had to give them supplements for that.

ladyblue,

I am also taking 800mg ibuprofen 1 -2 times a day for pain I have from stenosis, bulging disc's bla bla bla. tomorrow (Friday) I will be going in for a 2nd round of injections in my back. this time he told he will do some nerve blocks to try to help with my left side pain. I also am on my feet daily at work all physical. I work for Petco as a animal specialist and have to clean all the small animal cages 2 times a week, help customers, do the cash register etc. 7 hours a day 5 days a week. I am also taking 30mg Cymbalta, now going to 60mg. I do think it helps the pain along with the ibuprofen. I believe this is the only thing that keeps me going!

welcome aboard... keep us posted.

Hi ,

Have you seen a spine specialist for evaluation and diagnosis or is your

diagnosis only based on the radiology reading of your MRI and what your GP has

said?

If that is the case, you really need to be fully evaluated by a spine surgeon,

either an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spines or a neurosurgeon that

specializes in spines only.

Your employment is not going to do your spine any good right now, especially the

CNA one.

Why did you fire the physical therapist? PT can be an excellent help in spinal

stenosis.

Your GP is really not qualified to treat or diagnose your spine problems, you

really need to be seen by a spine specialist and should do that before you enter

into any pain management program either.

Hello Lorna

First we need to know what your thyroid function test results

are. You can get these from your GP and post them here together with the

reference range for each of the tests - otherwise, we are unable to read them.

Also ask your GP to test to see if you have antibodies to your thyroid. If you

have, this means the antibodies see your thyroid bland as public enemy number

one and sets about its gradual destruction, so you will eventually not be able

to put out the thyroid hormones your body requires and will need to take

replacements for the rest of your life. The majority of people with

hypothyroidism have antibodies. If you do have antibodies, you should not be

taking any iodine.

Get your GP to do the following blood tests. Ferritin (stored

iron), B12, Vitamin D3, magnesium, zinc and copper to see if any of these are

low in the reference range. If they are, this could be a reason why you are

having such a bad effect with your Armour. Your body is unable to absorb

thyroid hormones if any of these blood results are low. You should do this as

soon as you can and start supplementing if any of them are low. You will then

be in a better position to absorb the thyroid hormones in Armour.

Read about the 'Associated Conditions' that go along with hypothyroidism

that is in our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk.

Click on 'Hypothyroidism' and then on 'Associated Conditions' and read

everything there so you understand what might be happening. You should also

check to see if you have systemic candidiasis. You can do this through private

testing by Genova Diagnostics www.gdx.uk.net

.. This test is not done within the NHS sadly, but there are many who are unable

to use thyroid hormone replacement because they suffer with Candida. This would

also have to be treated if you have a problem.

The reference range for TSH in the UK is far too broad, and if

you are told that your TSH is within the reference range and is therefore

normal, this is not always the case. I look forward to hearing from you with

your results, but meanwhile, read, read and read again and ask lots of

questions, and hopefully, somebody here will be able to help you.

Luv - Sheila

Since then, I have been taking Lugols 5% iodine 4 to 6 drops, plus vit C,

Selenium, Vit B, magnesium etc and initially, I felt great. I was able to

complete a course I had to put off because I could not retain any information.

Now, my symptoms have returned with the added bonus of severe PMT and I have no

idea why. Recent blood tests confirmed that my thyroid levels are low, my

hormone levels are reported to be within range. My GP now suspects that the

Lugols may have caused the hypo symptoms to return but I am not convinced. I

feel worse if I do not take iodine, it is helping me to function.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Lorna

Yes I do see issues that will be helped with iodine. I also see some major body imbalances. You really should get to a holistic doc that will run some all around labs.

This is what I would run. You can run them yourself from www.healthcheckusa.com if a doc won't.

TSH

Free T3

Free T4

Tg Ab

TPO Ab

CBC

Iron / Ferritin

B12

Vit D (25 Hydrox)

LH

FSH

PTH

Estrogen

Progesterone

Testosterone

DHEA

Progesterone

Cholsterol

LDL / HDL

Glucose (fasting)

Insulin (fasting)

That will give you a good start. If I were you I would start on the basic iodine protocol found on my website at www.naturalthyroidchoices.com with a dose of either 25 mg and work up to 50 mg or start right at 50.

New Here

Hi - I'm new here and trying to learn more about iodine. A little history: Grew up in the midwest and had chronic sore throats from an early age. Finally had a tonsillectomy at the age of 16. It didn't fix stop the sore throats. I had a goiter at about age 30 and was told that I'd have to have my thyroid removed and be on synthetic thyroid hormone the rest of my life. I felt great, healthy and fit and was very active (although my temp was often 99+ during this time). I ran for my life. I wasn't about to let someone slit my throat open when I had no symptoms. I never followed up and don't know what the exact diagnosis was.By 40 I was overweight, depressed and suffering from general malaise. I complained to my gyno and PCP about typical hypo symptoms (below) but they convinced me that my symptoms were due to peri-menopause. At 50 I was finally dx hypoT (TSH 6.1) and have been on T3 (high RT3) and HC (adrenal insufficiency) since April. In addition, since 2000 I have been diagnosed and/or treated for: Heel bone spurs/plantar fasciitis, broken ribs & wrist, Pleurisy, DVT/PE, uterine fibroids. I suspect Hashi's but have never been dx. Do you see any patterns here? Would iodine be helpful?RadarSymptoms: Lethargy, fatigue, chronic depression, constipation, weight gain, inability to lose weight, lack of stamina, no libido, high cholesterol regardless of healthy diet, high triglycerides, bloating, digestive problems, insomnia, brain fog, inability to concentrate, need for naps, kidney stones, hair loss, irritability

Hi all,I'm new to this group. I've been taking Iodoral for about a year and a half now. I started on 50mg and have been taking 62.5 since about January. I have Hashimoto's and have been able to decrease my armour from 2.5 to 2 grains. I'm wondering what the range of Iodoral dosage is for you all? I felt so much better after my increase from 50mg to 62.5mg, that I'm wondering if another increase would be a good idea. I did a loading test before I started the Iodoral, but just did my last increase based on how I was feeling. I'm working with a Naturopath and I'll ask her next time I see her, but I wanted to hear from you all whether anyone takes more than 62.5mg.thanks!

Welcome! You will need a whole lot more iodine than what you are taking in that Iosol. Most of us take doses of 12.5 mgs (few) to 100 mgs (I do) or more. Dealing with the health issues you have will require a "bigger bat".

Book: Dr. Brownstein - Iodine Why you Need It Why You Can't Live Without It www.drbrownstein.com

Websites:

www.optimox.com

www.iodine4health.com

www.naturalthyroidchoices.com - my site

www.breastcancerchoices.org - has a section on iodine / bromide

That should get you started. You will have more questions once you start digging in.

new here

Hi everyone...

I'm new here. I am hypothyroid, insulin resistant, have very low ferritin and Vitamin D and I am treating with Erfa Thyroid meds, ever since Armour changed and threw my health for a loop. I have recently bought the book Mastering Leptin, by Byron J s and I'm working my way through it. One of the things he discusses is the need for Iodine. I have just begun taking Iosol Iodine about 5 days ago. I take 2 drops in a small glass of water. 1 drop has 1830 mcg of Iodine. Can anyone recommend where to get an Iodine test inexpensively? Also any good books/websites about Iodine? I am totally new to the world of Iodine supplements, so I just thought I'd introduce myself. I look forward to learning alot here. Thanks : )

There is an interview I did on my home page too www.naturalthyroidchoices.com - bottom right that will have some info for you on iodine.

Also I just did a talk last Thursday on www.talkshoe.com - search for Stop The Thyroid Madness and I think you will find it. It was recorded so you can listen.
