Guest guest
Hi Rebekah, Have you reacted to aspirin ever? Also, just a thought, but have you thouht about avoiding wheat in your diet and see it your digestive issues clear up? I've had all your symptoms too, and found that if I totally avoide wheat and gluten, then my digestive issues are gone..much happier about that :-) Do you take oral steroids much for your nasal polyps? Welcome to this site anyway, whether you have samters or not, and we'll see if we can help you with deciding...to me it sounds like you MAY have samters...we just need to know if you react to salycilates/aspirin. Best wishes Becky From: princess_rebekah2001 <womens_fellowship@...>samters Sent: Sun, 30 January, 2011 1:33:36Subject: New Here Hello all,I'm new here and have spent many hours today researching this. TBH I don't know if im samters or not or even ss.I have suffered from nasal congestion from the age of 4 I am now 29. I have had 2 nasal roperations as a child and polyps removed 4 years ago. I am using Nasonex and Neilmed nasal wash daily. I increase these to twice a day during bad attacks which I have right now. I seem to have had sinusitis for about 3-4 weeks now and dread another trip to the drs. Pre-Operation for polyps they took bloods and tested the RAST came back negative. I was told I was just one of those people who was allergic. And I was like allergic to what though lol. I have what my consultant called Allergic Asthma caused by the nasal issues. I have never had an attack but have wheeziness and tightness. I have a lot of muscle pains which I had linked to stress etc. And I also have a sensitive stomach which is gassy and bloated a lot and sometimes have diahhrea for no reason. The biggest problem though is by far my nasal congestion/polyp related issues.Reading the big long list I can see some of these things are in it and I have other minor issues which or may not be this. I haven't been tested for anything except for the RAST and tbh I don't know where to go from here. Do I just jump in with the detoxing and see how I go or try and get referred to a dietician - good luck with that on the NHS! Thanks in advance xEdit: I have actually had urticaria a few times - most serious a few years ago when I was putting weight on and linked it to that. Had steroid cream that cleared it up. Tends to appear as a itchy rash on my hands more than anything for a few days then goes. But isn't consisitent enough or regulary to link it to anything. Guest guest
The odd thing is I have never had asprin! LOL. I tend to take ibruprofen or paracetamol. Haven't reacted to any of those. Bacause I haven't had or reacted to Asprin I don't know. Whether its down to salycilates in products/food I don't know. I feel kind of lost as to where to begin tbh. I read on another site if you cut stuff out you can then be more sensitive when you reintroduce which seems to be a bit of a waste if you would be worse. Might just have to suffer forever. Digestive wise this doesn't bother me a huge amount tbh. My nasal issus are by far my worse. Yes I take daily nasonex and use the neil med nasal wash. I can;t not take the nasonex otherwise it would be just like having concrete up my nose! > > Hi Rebekah, > > Have you reacted to aspirin ever? > > Also, just a thought, but have you thouht about avoiding wheat in your diet and > see it your digestive issues clear up? > > I've had all your symptoms too, and found that if I totally avoide wheat and > gluten, then my digestive issues are gone..much happier about that :-) > Do you take oral steroids much for your nasal polyps? > Welcome to this site anyway, whether you have samters or not, and we'll see if > we can help you with deciding...to me it sounds like you MAY have samters...we > just need to know if you react to salycilates/aspirin. > Best wishes > Becky > > > > > ________________________________ > From: princess_rebekah2001 <womens_fellowship@...> > samters > Sent: Sun, 30 January, 2011 1:33:36 > Subject: New Here > > Â > Hello all, > > I'm new here and have spent many hours today researching this. Guest guest
Technically one doesn't have Samter's until they have all three pieces of the triad - aspirin sensitivity (this often expresses in reactions to other medications such as ibuprofen), asthma and nasal polyps. However, anicdotally these don't all express at the same time. I started with asthma as a child and young adult, allergic rhinitis turned to polyps in my late 20's, and my aspirin reaction showed up in my early 30's. I think if you have two of the triad, you should be very watchful for number 3, the reactions to aspirin or ibuprofen can be sudden and deadly, or they can sneak up. I took ibuprofen for headaches and back pain but generally at the same time as benedryl, so often my allergic symptoms were masked. Good luck! Guest guest
Rebekah You may want to talk to your doctor to see if he can have you tested for an allergy or sensitivity to carrageenan. It's a seaweed derived thickener that is used in things like ice cream, toothpaste, non-dairy creamers, Silk soy milk, cake frostings, etc. Some of the symptoms are diahhrea and bloating. After months of keeping track of my symptoms and what I had eaten, the common thread was my worst asthma and sinus reactions were 12+ hours after eating ice cream. My allergy doctor remembered reading something about carrageenan allergies, and ordered that blood test. Think the blood had to be sent to the only lab in the country that tests for it. The results came back about 2 weeks positive. There were times that I broke out in hives on any part of my skin that was in the sunlight. Once I stopped the carrageenans and took lots of vitamin D, that problem went away. By then, I had already researched the foods that contained it, and eliminated them. Further recent " testing " I've done on myself is indicating I may also be reacting to " amines " and yellow food coloring (the coating on aspirin). I'll post more about that separately to the group later today. I've eliminated eating cheese and chocolate, which are the foods very high in amines that I used to eat regularly and couldn't figure out why my polyps were always swelling up and I was always wheezing. Guest guest
Just read that these are used in condoms and personal lubricants too. As I have just come off the pill in the last 6 months this may be a reason for me noticing the issue more recently! Once I stopped the carrageenans and took lots of vitamin D, that problem went away.By then, I had already researched the foods that contained it, and eliminated them. Further recent " testing " I've done on myself is indicating I may also be reacting to " amines " and yellow food coloring (the coating on aspirin). I'll post more about that separately to the group later today. I've eliminated eating cheese and chocolate, which are the foods very high in amines that I used to eat regularly and couldn't figure out why my polyps were always swelling up and I was always wheezing.Jack> > > >> > > > Hi Rebekah,> > > > > > > > Have you reacted to aspirin ever?> > > > > > > > Also, just a thought, but have you thouht about avoiding wheat in your diet and > > > > see it your digestive issues clear up?> > > > > > > > I've had all your symptoms too, and found that if I totally avoide wheat and > > > > gluten, then my digestive issues are gone..much happier about that :-)> > > > Do you take oral steroids much for your nasal polyps?> > > > Welcome to this site anyway, whether you have samters or not, and we'll see if > > > > we can help you with deciding...to me it sounds like you MAY have samters...we > > > > just need to know if you react to salycilates/aspirin.> > > > Best wishes> > > > Becky> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ________________________________> > > > From: princess_rebekah2001 <womens_fellowship@>> > > > samters > > > > Sent: Sun, 30 January, 2011 1:33:36> > > > Subject: New Here> > > > > > > > Â > > > > Hello all,> > > > > > > > I'm new here and have spent many hours today researching this. Guest guest
before I was desensitized to aspirin I still reacted to Tylenol and Motrin couldn't take either. The only thing I could take for pain was Hydrocodone.Bianca From: princess_rebekah2001 <womens_fellowship@...>Subject: Re: New Heresamters Date: Sunday, January 30, 2011, 2:54 AM The odd thing is I have never had asprin! Guest guest
I had never taken aspirin either (except baby aspirin when I was younger). Guest guest
My samters is 90% nasal related - I have very little reaction with Asthma showing up. I do have it, and yes it does trigger at some points but my major symptom is nasal congestion, sneezing and loss of sense of smell. I wouldn't put too much weight on the fact that one symptom is stronger then the other. From having been on this thread for a while now, it seems the symptoms react and show up at different levels for different people. We're all still trying to find out the magic underlying denominator other than that this thread has helped a lot in learning about this disease as well as knowing I'm not suffering alone. Welcome and I hope this place gives you some comfort and advice that is useful!Bianca From: Bannister <beckyb256@...>Subject: Re: New Heresamters Date: Sunday, January 30, 2011, 12:01 AM Hi Rebekah, Have you reacted to aspirin ever? Guest guest
A lot of people on this list do not test positive to allergens despite bad nasal symptoms, so you are not alone! You might want to research celiac disease, which is an intolerance to gluten (not just wheat) which can cause the stomach issues you describe. There are tests for celiac disease also. A good friend suffers from it and had lots of stomach issues before being diagnosed and she feels much better now that she is gluten-free. Do you use an antihistamine? Guest guest
I don't think this is deug related. I don't very often take pills. Once in a blue moon lol. It has to be something I'm eating or in contact with daily. And I'm more stuffy at night but didn’t test positive for dust mite allergy. But may be as I'm lying down and your vessels lie in a diff direction or something. Guest guest
Just a quick note. I took aspirin (in alka seltzer) right up to the day I had a miscarriage and wasn't allergic....after the miscarriage, I was allergic. Basically...1 day later I was allergic to something I had taken most of my life. 50% of Samterites also develope an allergy to Tylenol (acetomenophen). If you ever develope labored breathing after taking medication....depending on the dose you took...do not hesitate to seek medical help right away. Good luck...by the way my symptoms came in this order..asa intolerance 18 years, polyps early 30's along with mild asthma in early 30's. Guest guest
Hi angel, Oestrogen and progesterone are part of the bodys regulatory system with regard to thyroid hormones- oestrogen binds to thyroid hormone taking it out of use, but progesterone transport the thyroid hormones, which is why all hormones need to be balanced- an excess of oestrogen will mean that too much thyroid hormone will be bound. thyroid treatment From: angel47572000@...Date: Mon, 7 Mar 2011 14:09:28 +0000Subject: New here it made me feel quite ill at the time and it took many years to get over it(symptoms were like post partum depression) . so you need to may be try other contraceptives as the many pills have oestrogen in them and this can make the hypothyroid worst. not sure way this is but best to read all you can andlearn how to help yourself stay well. as many of us have done. Guest guest
the other thing with oral contraceptives is that they are not bio-identical to the ones our bodies produce ...their molecular structure is changed just a little bit so that they can be patented (and the drug companies can make money). i believe that these oral contraceptives are very damaging to health and one day there will be class action lawsuits against the manufacturers. to my mind is it not dissimilar to the story about cigarettes ie years and years of denial about the harm they do and then the truth is revealed. Guest guest
Hi Trish, Oral contraceptives can be a great help to those suffering from heavy bleeding and great period pain- they are not totally evil, but are maybe not necassarily laways prescribed as carefully as they should be. We are all different and therefore different meds suit different folk. > thyroid treatment > From: fielddot@...> Date: Mon, 7 Mar 2011 16:47:03 +0000> Subject: Re: New here> > > the other thing with oral contraceptives is that they are not bio-identical to the ones our bodies produce ...their molecular structure is changed just a little bit so that they can be patented (and the drug companies can make money). > > i believe that these oral contraceptives are very damaging to health and one day there will be class action lawsuits against the manufacturers. to my mind is it not dissimilar to the story about cigarettes ie years and years of denial about the harm they do and then the truth is revealed.> > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. Guest guest
hi jenny yes i know they can be helpful in relieving symptoms of hormone imbalance ...i used to suffer from unbelievably painful periods and the pill did help with that but it never addressed the root cause. the point i would emphasise is that they are not bio-identical and the body therefore does not recognise them as natural and there are always consequences to unnatural subtances circulating in our bodies. i appreciate we are all different but none of us produce steroids with the molecular structure such as found in contraceptive pills. trish > > > Hi Trish, > Oral contraceptives can be a great help to those suffering from heavy bleeding and great period pain- they are not totally evil, but are maybe not necassarily laways prescribed as carefully as they should be. Guest guest
Hi, this is my first post - have been researching bob beck - trying to cure myself of lyme disease/cfids - any thoughts as to whether this will work for me. - Does the protocol actually work for other diseases too? Is this thing legit. Thank you very much,

Guest guest
I use a food program for CFS/fibromyalgia. Don't know how that would affect lyme infections but some of the program is the best attempt we have to make the immune system more responsive and strong, undenatured whey and selenium. I also use an HGH trigger for energy/recovery/growth, following Dr. Cheney, who also used whey and HGH enhancers on CFS/fibro. all good, Duncan > > Hi, this is my first post - have been researching bob beck - trying to cure myself of lyme disease/cfids - any thoughts as to whether this will work for me. > > - Does the protocol actually work for other diseases too?
