Average Lifespan of Pro Football Players

I just want to add more grist to the fit vs. healthy

debate. When the NFL introduced pensions for retired

football players, they elected to provide benefits at

age 55. They knew at the time that the average

lifespan of pro football players was 50 years old.

Since then players have just gotten bigger. I would

be surprised if the average lifespan has improved

since then. Makes me glad I didn't go into pro

football.
