Guest guest
Hi folks: Good news on fruit but see comments on vitamin E. " Fruits, vitamin C may protect against stomach cancer October 18, 2004 A recent study presented at the American Association for Cancer Research Third Annual International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research suggested that fruits and vitamin C might be protective against stomach cancer. The study assessed the link between the consumption of fruits and vegetables and the risk of stomach cancer in approximately 29,000 male smoker participants of the Alpha-Tocopherol, Beta Carotene (ATBC) Cancer Prevention Study in Finland. The study found that fruit and vitamin C consumption, but not vegetable consumption, reduced non-cardia cancer by 45 percent. Lycopene, an antioxidant found in tomatoes, reduced non-cardia cancer by 34 percent. Retinol (a form of vitamin A) consumption reduced the cardia cancer risk while alpha-tocopherol and gamma-tocopherol, two forms of vitamin E, seemed to increase the cardia cancer risk. The study was conducted by researchers from the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Public Health Institute of Finland from 1985 to 1993. " Rodney.
