Could this thyristor/SCR (first link) be substituted for the one in the below

schematic?

This top schematic, with the switch and resistor:

If so, would the gate voltage of the SCR (20 volts) require a change in the

resistor vaue of 10 Kohms?

I have 14 270 uF photoflash caps, and I was going to use 6 or 7 of them. I

intend to lay out the circuit using 1/2 or 1/4 inch copper pipe as busbars,

because of the high joules.

I also intend to use 400 volt, 6 amp diodes to prevent blowback. Maybe a 500

watt halogen bulb for a return-path resistor instead of the two 100 watt bulbs.

I had a pulser I made with a strobe light, but eventually it wore out. I want

to make a more powerful one this time. I also have ten pounds of 14 gage magnet

wire, I thought about making a coil twice as large as Beck suggested, maybe even

adding a core.

Thanks much for your time.
