Guest guest
Thank, very much for the link. So far I've not seen true yams in the stores. I'm not sure I want to eat anything raw or even cooked that might be toxic. If it has to be cooked, I wonder HOW LONG? Then lot's more questions. What's so great about a yam? Some chemical that's not in a sweet pot? Reminds me of the time someone tried to feed me rhubarb. Regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: jeannechristensen2002 Sent: Tuesday, November 30, 2004 9:53 PM Subject: [ ] Re: You bet your life http://www.sweetpotato.org/c4.htmHere is a website that says (among many other websites) that you MUST cook yams, but not sweet potatoes. Some of the websites I visited mentioned toxicity for raw yams. Thanks everyone, I learned something.Jeannie
Guest guest
Here on the left hand side of the country, I do see 'Garnet Yams' in the local stores. I've found these and others (no name associated to them) to be sweeter than the sweet potatoes I've tried. IOW, I don't need to add sweetening to them to enjoy them. I cook them long enough to be soft; they are easier to mash that way. Maybe I need to be more careful.
