Guest guest
I was interested in the coffee part and found that Dr. discussed the coffee research. Dr. happends to be the director of the Institute for Coffee Studies, established by a consortium of coffee-producing countries (Brazil, Colombia, and a coalition of Central American nations) under the auspices of the Association of Coffee Producing Countries (ACPC), the National Coffee Association of the USA, and the All Japan Coffee Association. I didn't look up all those organizations, but at least one of these, the National Coffee Association of the USA, is a lobbyist group. I'm particularly interested in these kinds of ties, as I believe corporate interests directly affect public health. The folks in the food business rely on a society that consumes more and more, which is exactly what CR is not about. As Americans suffer and become increasingly obese, people in food business get richer. This one is about Blueberries: " Blueberries - a good source of antioxidants also may help break down cholesterol and fat, as studies on rat cells at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Laboratories in Oxford, Miss found. Pterostilbene, a compound in the berries may prove to be a potent weapon in the battle against heart disease " . This one is about coffee: " Two to four cups of coffee a day may lower the risk of liver disease, cancer, clogged arteries, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's and diabetes, according to a report presented recently at the New York Academy of Sciences. Coffee experts say that each cup is actually a complex mixture of active compounds, including healthful antioxidants. " My, my this last bit about coffee makes it sound like the wonder food. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 9 Date: Sat, 13 Nov 2004 19:14:31 -0500 From: Dowling <christopher.a.dowling@...> Subject: Re: blueberries and Coffee (again) My impression is that many of the foods we eat daily (mostly fruits and vegetables, IMO) are " wonder " foods. We are simply mostly unaware of their fantastic beneficial health effects.
