Guest guest
Has anyone here been tested for Lyme Disease? It is still considered NOT in Australia. But on closer reading what is actually being said is that the type of tick that 'usually' carries the disease in North America is not here in Australia, whereas there are ticks here, they do bite, they do leave the rash, and people do get ill. Lyme still seems to be a diagnosis of exclusion.... a diagnoses by symptoms and not by laboratory results (mostly).... although some people do get a confirmation thru testing ... most do not..... and there in lies one of the problems. Getting a doc to consider the treatment of lyme without the scientific laboratory (so called) proof that you have it. And late stage Lyme means lonnnnnnggggggggg periods of strong antibiotics to possibly help alleviate the disease. I had a bite back in 2000 I was never tested for lyme I had a circular spreading rash We do not know what bit me So like many here I have been thrown on the doc's 'scrap heap', into the doc's 'too hard' basket and given the doc's 'badge of mishonour'...... hypochondriac.... yup 'come back' when you have 'something real' we can treat! Life can be so frustrating. I do not know if I contracted Lyme or another hidden disease back in 2000.... but I do know that it has been one heck of a downwards spiral ever since........... Comments are appreciated, but remember I am in Australia, so the wonders of the US medical system no longer apply to my case...... they did for a few years, but even then I was 'a difficult case'..... direct quote!
