Guest guest
Tom: Knowing your age, you should be even more cautious. 1500 calories sounds much too low esp for your age and height (6 feet IIRC). At 72, aim for 1/2 pound a week or less. If not you are playing with fire and this could result in a SHORTER, not longer lifespan. Don't stop taking any meds til you're sure you don't need them. IOW get a checkup first. Your " hunch " is not good enough. Here's what Dr W says in BT 120 YD : pg.230 " ...crash diets shorten life... " pg 50: " ......at greater ages, the diet should be less severe...... " and ,,, " body weight should be lost gradually " ........He explains that older mice died YOUNGER not older when on a severe plan (which it sounds like you are on). Yes, CR works for dogs but if I were you, I'd get my own program correct first. The seeds and skins of grapes are very desirable and are discussed by Dr W on pg 176. on 11/8/2004 8:16 AM, W. Guest guest
I pretty much agree with what Fran said... don't drop the meds until you see results in lowered total chol, and moderate your weight loss. I suspect you get similar benefit to blood chemistry for even a slight energy deficit, so severe restriction only results in faster weight loss and higher toxin load (fats often store nasty toxins). Yes, CR is beneficial to dogs, but same caveats apply, old dog, go slow. Purina did a classis dog study and the pictures are impressive. IMO CR'd dogs look better than CR'd people. :-) JR -----Original Message-----From: W. I have increased my intake to 1500 calories per day based on your advice. Someone asked my age. I am 72. The previous post has a typo. It should have said, I stopped taking zocor. My hunch is that it should not be necessary on a CR diet. My diet includes several red seeded grapes for breakfast. I wonder if eating the seed would be the same as taking grape seed diet supplement. What about my dog? Is there any information on CR for dogs? Cordially, Tom Culbertson
