I have been taking Ativan for two years now. Just .5 and sometimes 1.0 . I have been told by three doctors that I trust{and I do not trust many} that at that dosage the body does not become addicted. I certiantly have not any problemsIt takes a much higher dosage for addiction to occur.Sue

I have used small doses of ativan for more than two years now and I AM addicted and have tolerance withdrawal. I was shocked that this could happen, but it does. I only take it at night, in divided doses but the body has these nasty little benzodiazepine receptors. Body loves the stuff and wants it regularly once a pattern of use is established.

It is far better to use benzos intermittently if at all possible. Lots of docs refuse to prescribe these for patients for more than a few weeks because getting off them is so very difficult. I haven't been able to.

Re: Dom's new sleep regimen

Dom - Do you have to take the ativan every single night? At that

small dose can you still become addicted? As long as you can stay as

the smaller dose who cares. Just curious what your doctor said about

that. I am so glad this is working for you!

, why doesn't the specialist order it? Sometimes Drs won't order meds that another Dr recommends. Has the specialist consult with your PCP? I am a rarity and I have no problem getting what I need whether it me meds or test etc. Sandie -- Re: Dom's new sleep regimen > My Psychiatrist, who specializes in all of our "chronic" illness's, is the one that's really concerned about my lack of sleep, my PCP could care less! He's given me samples of seroquel, but it kind of scared me, as it would knock me out from one second to an other with no notice at all. Right now a 10mg Ambien NOT the CR, that never worked, will put me out pretty good, but I DO NOT take it every night, maybe only 2 x a week. Xanax however, I am on a pretty high dose, 3 mg a day, plus a 2mg Xanax ER at bedtime. But as far as sleeping, wether or not I get to stage 4 sleep, which supposedly we don't, my virus levels, (EBV, HHV-6, & CMV) are so HIGH, that I'm bedridden at least 85-90% of the time. Don't understand my PCP, he gives me way too much of controlled substances, Ex: morphine for pain, which helps, but I only need 1/3 of the dose he gives me, and an amphetamine to help my fatigue, but as per my specialists request, he REFUSES to give me Valcyte, an antiviral, and won't give me a reason. Well, does ANYONE have Dr's that meet all their needs??? Probably not! > ------------------------------------

Hey , my Physiatrist gives me my pain meds and my Neuropathy Gel, my Psychiatrist is the one that gives me my sleep meds, which is Xanex 1 mg nightly as well as any other time I need it, as nothing else works at all and also Zoloft, and I've only seen him once so far, my Rheumo gives me nothing and have only seen him twice, my PCP gives me my Nexium, Flonase, Maxalt, my Urologist gives me Vesicare for the over active bladder, my dentist gives me my Amoxicillin for my MVP. So unfortunately no I have to go to all the different docs for this and wish I could just get them from only a couple of them. Out of all of my doc's the only one I feel cares and trully understands our illness is the Psychiatrist. It's horrible financially, between the copays for the specialists and the meds. I'm trying to get assistance for this

now and am obtaining the information.necessary.

Hope this helps. Soft Hugs H.

Hi Darlene, I actually have 3 different Neuropathy Gels which are compound Gels made and mixed specifically for each patient. The first one I used was called NEUROPATHY SPEED GEL which is to be used for my entire body when I have my skin sensitivities. They sent me a second to try just compounded a little differently, as the first one wasn't really helping too much and this is what is on the label, KET/GAB/CLN/EML/AMI/KETO, it's a bit sticky and was also using it on my face as I also have the sensitivities there. The the third one, which I recently received and have tried on my face works a little better and this is what's on the label, KET/GAB/CLN/EML/AMI/KETO IN LIPODERM. This is mainly for my face and neck.

The company that I get this from is not locally located, therefore it has to be sent to me. I don't know of any around me that mixes compounds for patients.

Hope this helps Darlene. Any other questions just let me know. Soft hugs H.
