My diet for my Fibro/CFIS does not allow me nuts. They aggravate our immune systems. They can be ingested if prepared properly in the oven. Some long drawn out process that to me is too much bother for the pleasure of having nuts. But if you want me to get you the recipe for the process I will.SueFrom: debbietenenbaum

almond bread or muffins because I've been on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for Ulcerative Colitis. GI-wise, SCD has helped a lot (and my recent colonscopy showed no sign of inflammation! ), but my Chronic Fatigue/Fibromyalgi a is a little worse, and I'm wondering if my chronic HHV-6 and Epstein-Barr and other viruses are being fed by all these nuts. Since the amino acid Lysine is antagonistic to Arginine, I'm thinking of starting an L-Lysine supplement. Or else stop eating almond bread, but I'm running out of SCD-legal foods to eat. On the other hand, Arginine is important for cardio-vascular functioning and general immunity, so how do you balance them? Thanks, Debbie T Thanks

Dear Sue -

Yes, I would like to see the nut recipe if you have it handy.

I currently use raw blanched slivered almonds and a bit of whole raw almonds, grind them into flour, add other ingredients, and bake for 45 minutes to make a bread. Some people say to soak them first so they'll sprout and then dry them in the oven but the SCD diet says soaking can promote fungal growth.

I never heard of a problem with nuts and Fibro before - is it the arginine problem or something else? I'd love to hear more about your diet, and also where you learned about this.

Thanks, Debbie
