Guest guest
With all the bad news bombarding us from TV, internet and newspapers constantly, it really pulls us down mentally and emotionally. Here's something I found to protect my MIND from all the negativity-- Philippians 4:8 " Whatever things are TRUE, whatever things are NOBLE, whatever things are JUST, whatever things are PURE, whatever things are LOVELY, whatever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there is any VIRTUE and if there is anything PRAISEWORTHY—meditate on THESE things. " (not on all the horrifying reports on the news and in the newspapers!) I know we need to stay informed, but how much murder and mayhem can a mind stand before it snaps??! My husband said there has always been evil and trouble in the world, but now we have the technology to think about it constantly, due to the 24/7 media. His philosophy lately has changed to this: " If there's nothing I can do about it, and it doesn't happen under this roof, I am not going to worry about it. " And if you think about it, there's only so much we control anyway! An older man at our church (who immigrated from a poverty-striken country) commented to my husband recently: " Nobody in America is HAPPY! " (And we have SOOOO much to be thankful for!) Maybe we are dwelling on negatives too much! Where this man is from, people barely scrape by with enough to eat everyday, but in many ways their mental health is better! Without TV, internet and newspapers, their only reality is what is actually happening in their own home and community. They aren't worrying about the world's problems, just where to get their next meal (but since this is all they know, it doesn't bother them)! Well, this is what I've been thinking about lately! We need to protect our MINDS more! Dom
