Guest guest
" i have a bowel mvmt approx.twice a week " > that is certainly not right, once a day is normal I would think. But like Francesca it struck me that there is no mention of salad or raw veg. Recently I was trying a more fish and veg diet, but at one point I got lazy and started cooking the veg and skipping the salad and I got your problem, less bowel movements. And as I knew it was the change of diet that caused the problem, I just brought in more raw veg which got things back to normal. Also a tin of beans a day (200g cooked never fails to get things regular again, or lentils 200g or 200g wholemeal bread or three to four tablespoons of wheatbran mixed in with your veg, and prunes (100g of them for a couple of days should work), infact grapes even work for somebody I know, but they never do anything for me. Also you did not say which veg you ate, that may give somebody here a clue as to what's causing the problem. ...
Guest guest
I've found unflavored psyillium to facilitate regularity quite effectively. In the short term, however, it might increase the bloating sensation. Guest guest
The bloated feeling is probably caused by gas of fermentation when food stays in the intestines too long. Several posts have already suggested fresh vegetables and psyllium fiber. In addition to these sources of fiber, you might want to eat plain yogurt or kefir with live cultures regularly. The bacteria in yogurt can re-populate the intestine with probiotic bacteria that will help digestion and elimination. I read recently that the human intestines host about one kilogram of microorganisms of various types. These microorganisms produce some vitamins and convert a portion of the fiber to short-chain fatty acids. These bacteria can also can produce gas. The foods that you eat, antibiotics, etc. can kill bacteria or change their balance in the intestines. It is important to eat foods that maintain and replenish the good bacteria. Guest guest
forgot something that I don't think anyone else has mentioned. Are you getting enouph fluids? Try drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water a day to keep things moving. If you eat more raw veggies (which have lots of water) and start drinking green tea, that might improve the situation. on 10/11/2004 6:58 AM, Yongae Jun at yongaecron@... wrote: > > hi, i was wondering if anyone expeienced excessive bloating. i seriously feel > like i'm pregnant. i know that i'm not, but my stomach is soooooo incredibly > bloated and expanded, that i can barely fit anything in my closet. it's to > the point where i am extremely uncomfortable. i have a bowel mvmt approx. > twice a week, and i eat about 1400 calories per day, mostly cooked vegetables, > fruit, and some fish. does anyone have any experience with this, or guesses > on what it could be. > > i'm thinking maybe i need to chew more, or use less salt. i tend to oversalt > my food.??? > > thanks, Yongae > >
Guest guest
Hi Jun: Here is a big 'stab in the dark'. Have you found the bloating started only after you moved your home to a new geographical location? And is the water in your new location chlorinated? Or not? ***IF*** you have recently moved, and if the water at your new location is NOT chlorinated (even if the water was not chlorinated at your previous location either) you may be suffering minor symptoms from a local bug that is not successfully removed by the local filtration plant. If that is the problem (as I indicated, only a minor probability) then the solution would be to somehow sterilize all water you consume from local sources (boiling, filtration with a good filter or addition of various water sterilization compounds). I do know that what is sometimes called " trapped gas " is a symptom sometimes experienced in such circumstances. It can be very uncomfortable, and from personal experience it feels a bit as if you are blown up like a balloon. I believe there are also medications that can fix the problem. But it would be better to fix the basic cause rather than take medication for it, imo. As I said, just a small possibility this might be the explanation.
