Sammy,

Ease your way into it. If you have a relapse it may be your body

telling you , you needed those additional calories. Don't let guilt

obstruct your progress. Restate and clarify your goals with regards

to health, food, and life. Then make the adjustments you need to

make. Don't let the desire to increase the quantity of your life ,

decrease the quality of your life:)

It sounds like you already know what you need to do. Cron is not a diet but

a decision to optimize nutrition while reducing energy intake.

There are many foods that just don't make sense. Sugar has no nutrition to

speak of so the cost benefit calculation is easy... no sugar. There are zero

cal or low calorie substitutes when you need something sweet.

Focus on identifying and eating high quality foods. That will leave less

room for bad stuff.

Don't deprive yourself. You will not die young from the one piece of cake

you had at a wedding reception, like I did last weekend. It's the donuts

every morning at coffee break and habitual every day snacking that does the

most damage.

Have you done a nutritional analysis of the food you're eating? Sometimes

you can be deficient despite consuming excess energy. Your body may still be

hungry because you didn't feed it the right stuff...

Before you worry about starving yourself, have you nourished yourself?

Good luck, and be well..

Point WELL taken. very sound advice. thank you so much. this helps me take the

focus off

of the FOOD and puts it back into the NOURISHMENT angle.

Hi Sammy:

Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life. How about

deciding, for the rest of your life, to make vegetable soups a major

part of your eating habits. If you are out, go to the places you

know have vegetable soups on the menu. For eating at home, when you

go to the grocery store simply do not buy the stuff you know you

should not be eating. Buy vegetables instead and make soup from them

when you get home.

Make yourself vegetable soups on a daily basis. If you are unsure

how to make a tasty soup start with a vegetable soup recipe from

somewhere (there are tens of thousands of them on the web). Then add

to these soups the vegetables you know to be the healthiest, whether

or not the conventional wisdom believes they belong in soup.

Especially, add green vegetables to your soups. And preferentially

try to omit the highest calorie vegetables - potatoes for example. I

add chopped romaine lettuce to mine. Romaine has lots of nutrients

and very few calories and even remains crunchy if you do not cook the

soup for ever.

Soups are filling because of the water, and can be very tasty if you

use a few herbs that you like (oregano? thyme? marjoram? or whatever

that you like). You can also add a little of things like bran

(healthy, few calories), guar (no calories and filling), and so on to

thicken the soup to the consistency you prefer.

Works for me. Have fun at it.

Rodney.

All the advice you've gotten so far is excellent. Here's some more:

Go back to our files. Re-read " Beginning CRON " . Make a committment by

telling someone, or telling us here once a week or so how you're doing.

When you can control the environment, for example around your house, set it

up for only healthy foods and snacks. Keep salad all made up in the fridge

all set to eat at all times (that's what I do). And keep other easy to

reach healthy foods available so you don't get too hungry and start binging.

Plan meals a bit in advance so you know you will be eating properly.

For me, eating small meals every 3-4 hours keeps hunger at bay. In between

meals I drink a lot of tea.

Also have you tried guar? It does help to add to your meals. See our links

for places to buy it.

Again, read the files and links for great aids and tips!!

I like this advice about giving your body what it NEEDS. I do find

that if I eat the most nutritious foods I can find, the cravings for

bad stuff subside. The emotional aspect is there too, of course...

if I'm being nice to myself, the self-destructive part backs off (at

least for awhile... it's a constant battle... maybe some day the

self-destructive side will just fade away...) I also use

affirmations, even while overeating... such as:

Food is fuel. I do not use it for any other purpose.

I am satisfied with one serving.

I eat very slowly, so that I can savor every bite.

I desire only healthful foods.

Water tastes wonderful. I drink several glasses full every day.

My cravings for sweet, salty and fatty foods are becoming weaker and

weaker as time goes by, and will soon be gone altogether.

Each meal satisfies me until it is time for the next meal.

It's sort of a self-hypnosis. I write stuff like this on index cards

and keep them handy.
