Guest guest
Our bodies as fibromites are confused chemical war zones. There's no telling if coconut oil and alcohol intolerance are related, although that would make an interesting study for a researcher or chemist. One thing I've learned since I was diagnosed with fibro in 1982 http://www.fms-help.com/fibro.htm is that various substances affect the body of each fibromite differently. It's such a " trial and error " disease when you try to figure out all the pieces so you can avoid what causes flares and be as functional as possible. I often feel like this illness has a mind of its own (like a virus has taken control of our brains/bodies). I wish we had a (well-funded, highly skilled) medical researcher for our group who could examine some of these issues for us. This is indeed " millionaire's disease! " Docs and researchers don't even know what they are looking for. There's no definitive test, even! As far as alcohol goes, I'm a tee-totaller, although I tried wine for medicinal purposes a couple times (yech!!!) and a doc told me to get some brandy to help with excruciating endometriosis pains many years ago before I had surgery for it. No pain pill would even touch it. Trouble was, I drank a shot of brandy for that purpose, then because I wanted to sleep, then because I felt bappy....needless to say, I didn't want to become an alcoholic, so I quit all of that! As far as beer goes, the sight and smell of it makes me want to gag. No fears of drinking that awful stuff. I wonder too if the coconut oil in whatever product you were eating was rancid? There are a lot of rancid oils out there and they increase free radical damage in our bodies, which is why I take 2 forms of antioxidants (water-based and oil-based). I have heard from a number of readers who tried coconut oil (the good pure stuff). Some say it helped, some didn't....sigh...the usual response with just about everything we fibromites try. I say, " Try anything that seems logical and stick with anything that WORKS for you! " We've all got to find things that help us stay as functional as possible. - Dom > > Dom, > I read the newsletter and wanted to comment about coconut oil. Guest guest
Hi Dom, when coconut oil does work for someone like me, and others (plus the gentleman with Alzheimer's in the article) I'd like to know what's really happening. Why does it cause Brainfog improvement? Needs a study, and as you say the relationship between alcohol intolerance could be a factor. I'm very concerned about rancid oils. I enjoy sunflower seeds - and eat them frequently. When any are rancid they taste like poison, and the rancid seeds are usually yellow. It's hard to buy them anywhere without yellow seeds in the mix. Also, last weekend we ate breakfast out. I was very careful about what I chose to eat. Only fresh foods. My husband commented about the grease. It was fried, and everything was coated in a dark, oily substance. I should know better than this because I'm conscious of how bad hydrogenated (Transfats) oils are. The next day...total constipation...extreme pain! Denmark has banned Transfats, and every other country should do the same. You made a very good point about rancid oils. When I wrote about raisins, here recently...I even read somewhere in the food manufacturers literature - that some companies are going to use raisins as preservatives in some food products. Guess why! To sweeten, and cover up any bad flavours that might result from rancid oils in those products! I'd love to know what " 2 forms of antioxidants you take - the water-based and oil-based? Thanks Carlene > > Our bodies as fibromites are confused chemical war zones. Guest guest
Stacie, I would love to know this as well. I want to try to Coconut Oil, but would like to know about the possible connection to the intolerance of the alcohol. I also suffer from migranes, so I would rather not have that kind of reaction. Thanks for enlightening us. Hugs H From: buckleinc <sbuckle1@...>Subject: Coconut oil/brain fogdominie Date: Friday, November 28, 2008, 11:49 AM Dom,I read the newsletter and wanted to comment about coconut oil. I realize that FS and CFS causes brain fog/dementia but recently I developed a serious allergy to coconut oil. I noticed it when my Hubby had bought some truffles and after eating them I got a piercing headache that felt exactly like I had drank alcohol. It was the same burning in the ears, upset stomach, and feeling like a sword was stuck between my eyes that I get from alcohol intolerance. I looked on the package and everything was natural in it, except it had coconut oil. I tested it the next day by eating something else totally different that had coconut oil in it. Same effect.I wonder if the coconut oil has something to do with the alcohol intolerance. Has anyone else had the same effect?I didn't get brain fog lifted from coconut oil at all, in fact it made it so much worse and drained my energy totally.Stacie
