Guest guest
Tom, how interesting about you can " be " wheat-free on Atkins..sort of by default. I'll look into it. I was told that it takes a full 12 weeks for it to be totally out of your system and for arthritis to improve. i'm going to do more research! leslie

Guest guest
I had a doctor near the beginning with thought I should check for some allergies I can't remember -- wheat milk something and something maybe sugar. It seemed almost impossible to give up wheat for a week. I noticed that almost everything one eats has wheat in it. I halfheartedly tried for a week and I didn't notice anything so I gave up. How ever, because wheat has a lot of carbs, you can get by without wheat if you do the Atkins diet. I think I told the weight group, at least I should have, or I should tell that you can get more and more Atkins products -- I don't actually mean Atkins but low-carb. I now eat low-carb bread, pasta, ice cream, candy, sweet rolls sort of, hamburger rolls, cereal -- two kinds, and a variety of baking mixes. None of them taste like the real thing, but I am getting more and more use to them. (The bread is the worst). I probably am very close to wheat free. How ever, I don't know what to say about being healthy. Most certainly did not make me completely healthy, but remember that I am doing quite well as long as I don't push it. I do take tons of nutrition and my doctor still said that I'm low on vitamin D and that I should take more calcium yet -- 1000MB a day. (I don't say these things, my dictation program does ) megabytes. Does anyone here have a doctor with checks blood for vitamins? This is the first time she told me that I was short on these things. I just writing to say that if you go to the low-carb section, you can become almost wheat free. It will take a while to get used to it though :-) for a week or two it should be doable, I think. Need I say that a loaf of bread costs $4.50! They get to their as much as for medication! Her message in a nutshell was to try eliminating certain foods one at a time to see if your arthritis symptoms improve. The biggest culprits seemed to be sugar, dairy, caffeine and white flour, but everyone is different. In the room, maybe half the people noticed certain foods made there arthritis worse, the other half of us notice no difference. She also cautioned on using supplements. She gave us some websites where you can check the potency of different brands. Apparently, since supplements are not FDA approved they have checked some brands for ingredients and found they don't even have what they claim to have in them. Very scary. Guest guest
I have had CFS for 18 years. I had fibromyalgia for many years. I was in so much pain, I was on oxyconton, bextra, and neurontin for pain. I also had IBS. About 6 years ago, I developed diarhhea that would not go away. This went on for 6 weeks! My gastroenterolist told me it was my IBS flaring up, but I had never had that before. My CFS doctor told me that some people develop a sensitivity to wheat and dairy and to try getting off of both. Within 2 weeks, I had no pain and no diarhhea. I was able to get off both my pain meds and my meds for IBS after just 2 weeks on the diet. I stayed on the diet for 2 1/2 years and then was able to add both wheat and dairy back into my diet with no further problems. I have not been on any pain medicine since then and have no pain what so ever. Has anyone else had the good fortune that I have had with it? Guest guest
That is just wonderful . If only there were more stories like yours. Unfortunately I have IBS where I go from constipation to diarrhea, but lately it's constipation. I too am on Oxycontin (Roxicodone is the generic) and have tried Neurontin. The Neurontin I could not tolerate and seem to be doing okay with the oxycontin. I do get lots of stomach pain and have not found anything to help ease them. Hope you continue having great success.
