The Thin Mints, for example, used to have, as I recall, 1.5 g of saturated fat per serving of four (3?) cookies. Today, it is much higher. My order last year went largely uneaten after discovering this change in nutrition profile, and I refuse to order any this year. I think they changed bakers. Did they mention whether trans fats would be eliminated? Thanks, -
Guest guest
Trans fats are supposedly one of the things they are working on eliminating. I will contact them again in a few weeks and will report what I learn. on 1/24/2005 2:11 PM, cronzen at truepatriot@... wrote: > > >> I recently posted about the ingredients in girl scout cookies. >> >> I contacted the person in charge of these cookies nationwide and am happy to >> report that they are working on producing a healthier cookie. Guest guest
I thought I saw something (in the newspaper?) a week or two ago, suggesting they were in fact reviewing the formulation of GS cookies. I am not super optimistic however. They do have an unique opportunity in that they don't have to endure typical food industry shelf life issues. If GS cookies are in fact presold, they could tolerate using better ingredients and printing an " eat by " date on the package. That could even turn into a selling hook. Just imagine " healthier " cookies. What a concept. Of course the cookie titans actually making the cookies will resist shifting away from their standard practices. Good luck and keep complaining, more squeaky wheels get oil than silent ones. In fact I contacted the girl scouts and was told they were looking into healthier alternatives, but that was the last I heard. Tonight, ABC National News carried a story about the " junk " in girl scout cookies. Hope some of you saw it. Perhaps we're getting somewhere.
