Many people are acting out of genuine concern because being underweight is

generally not associated

with above average health. They can be calmed somewhat by offering that recent

blood tests or

check-up has shown very positive results. Some may be trying to rationalize

their self-image with

reality, which is visually contradicted by you being so slender. The first thing

to realize is that

this is their problem and their comments are really all about you making them

uncomfortable. Thank

them for their concern and try to change the subject.

I experienced one recent event where an ad-libber actually complemented me for

being light but it

was an unusual circumstance. We were playing basketball and had a 3 man pile-up

(yeah I know, not a

contact sport), I landed square on top of another player who thanked me for not

being fat like

several fellow players.

Note: at a BMI of 21.5 I am far from CR skinny but in central Mississippi I am

far from normal.

Subject: [ ] Anybody else get hassled about being thin?

My doctor says I am in excellent health, and I am fit. I am on the

thin side as most CRONers are.I get reaally tired of being hassled

about this (mostly from overweight people) by the general public and

the cruel comments about my being " too thin " .

Mostly, I get complaints from my wife: " You're too bony! " etc. Of

course, she often asks " do I look fat in this? " or simply complains

" I'm so fat! " , although she is not (a marathon runner with a BMI of

about 21.5, she's in great shape. Most other people may comment on

it, but not in a pejorative manner (at least not to my face), most of

the time.

I have a BMI of about 19, am small boned, am 5'4 " and weigh between 110 and

112 depending on whether I'm soaking wet. I never get told that I'm " too

skinny " . Mostly I get compliments.

So perhaps you are " too thin " ? Is your BMI less than 18? Not preaching

here (or at least not trying to) but if you're on the " thin side " of CR, be

careful. Too thin could mean trouble if you do get sick, or are in a car

accident etc. See our file: " Extreme vs Moderate CR " . Also, people with

BMI's between 18 and 22 live the longest (with the data we have so far

anyway). And we have no proof that extreme CR is any more beneficial for

humans that moderate CR at this point.

If you're intent on staying as you are and still get comments, I'd laugh it

off and say: " thank you - you can't be too thin or too rich " ..........If

the comments still continue, change the subject. It's your life not theirs.
