It's the nature of modern news reportage to distill a story down to easily

digestible soundbites which often lead to exaggeration

and/or distortions. That said the drug companies keep looking for, excuse my

choice of words, the " killer app " . A drug they can

prescribe to everybody, to take every day, for the rest of their life.

No doubt the physiological changes that some of these blood lipid, pain killer,

or anti-inflammatory drugs generate are potentially

helpful in a number of ways to people who have " challenged " diets, which is the

vast majority. The unfortunate reality is that

pretty much everything has side effects and over time, chronic use can cause

damage from these side effects.

For example, while taking an aspirin daily might be a good idea if you're 30 lbs

overweight, eat crap, and have already had your

first heart attack... If your on CR with good nutrition, aspirin might not only

provide zero benefit but could also do harm.

I agree the current reactions to drug news is over blown, but the drugs were

probably also being over-used as a consequence of all

the TV advertising. Patients don't feel like their doctor has helped them unless

he gives them some pills to swallow.

I don't have answers. There are some remarkable new drugs. I just wish people

would wake up and realize how much harm they are doing

themselves with their lack of digression regarding what they eat and drink. Many

people feed their pets better than themselves.

Be well... and happy new year.

Some researchers feel that what they are calling the Vioxx/Celebrex/Aleve

" hysteria " is overblown and is preventing researchers from investigating

promising cancer uses for these drugs............
