I don't have fibromyalgia, but I did have Candida overgrowth. You can have both. However, it is much more likely that most of the intestinal symptoms of fibromyalgia patients are due to a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. Most fibromyalgia patients have a very significant overgrowth. The more the overgrowth, the more the pain. Yes. The same diet, and similar hormonal and digestive support can be used to treat both Candida and bacterial overgrowth. So it can be confusing trying to differentiate between the two intestinal problems.

You feel that stress and trauma initiated your fibromyalgia. Of course that is possible. A lot of people feel that it is a big part of it. The trauma and stress can lead to a dysregulated nervous and hormonal system, which in turn contributes to a dysregulated bowel. The off-balance intestinal environment can contribute to the sleep disturbances and cognitive impairment. The small bowel bacterial overgrowth can be a source of excessive D-lactic acid, which I think may contribute to the muscle pain and poor exercise tolerance.

If you feel that trauma and stress has initiated your fibromyalgia, then consider neurofeedback alpha-theta training. This allows the body to finish the truncated physiologic responses and get rid of the trauma. It is very effective in getting rid of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

There are different neurofeedback alpha-theta training computer algorithms. The BrainPaint computer algorithm, used at UCLA, has been shown to give people significant progress in 3 to 10 sessions in dealing with their PTSD. Don't get the wrong impression. The computer algorithm doesn't do the work. Your body does. The computer and its interface only teaches your body to relax and access your subconscious. You do the rest. What comes up in a session are your own personal insights. No one is guiding you --- it is just you doing the work. (Perhaps you have heard of neurofeedback and its use in autism and ADD. This is similar, but different frequencies are accessed in alpha-theta training.)

It doesn't just have to be a psychological trauma. It seems that whiplash can initiate a very similar response in the body, like PTSD. See this article. http://www.traumasoma.com/excerpts/Whiplash%20Kindling.pdf Here is a quote:

"A comparison of post concussion syndrome and PTSD reveals that these two conditions share many symptoms, including stimulus sensitivity, sleep disturbance, headache, emotional symptoms and cognitive impairment. "
