Apoptosis in B CLL cells by hydroxychloroquine:

L. Lagneaux, et.al.

The researches used hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), and

anti-rheumatic drug on CLL cells from 20 patients.

HCQ reduced cell viability, with higher doses bringing

a better result.

HCQ was found to enhance apoptosis of these cells as

early as 5 hours post treatment. About 84% (plus or

minus 4% of the cells died at 18 hours after

treatment. Bcl-2 anti-apoptopic proteins were

reduced.

HCQ may offer a new weapon in the treatment of CLL

patients.
