Guest guest
Hi folks: Saw some dark chocolate chips at a sensible price in a store today, and bought them before analyzing the nutrient data (didn't have my calculator with me). I will be returning the package for refund tomorrow. First, the fat calories amount to about 40% of total. Ten percent would have been better. But also, carbohydrates are **fourteen times** the protein content. This indicates a gigantic added sugar component. No wonder the price was sensible - sugar is cheaper than cocoa. What is more, the sugar addition dramatically 'diluted' the 'fat calories percent total' number also. If we figuratively remove enough of the added sugar to bring the carbs down to just double the protein, then the fat calories must have amounted to about 76% of the total calories before the sugar was added. A good example of dark, transfat-free, chocolate NOT to buy. (But I had been impressed by the total absence of transfats in the ingredient list! DUH!) Rodney.
