In looking at page about an upcoming conference on food bioactives

it says: : http://www.scgcorp.com/bioactivefood2005/

Assessment of the health effects of bioactive food components requires

an understanding of (a) health promotion and disease conditions,

(B) what causes healthy cells/tissue/organ systems to become diseased,

© appropriate models for research and evaluation, and

(d) how external factors such as bioactive food components affect

these

processes and the resultant adverse health effects.

Seems to me that (d) "resultant adverse health effects" suggests a

negative slant is on the agenda. Seems odd to me.

Hi Apricot:

That is a very ambiguous piece of writing. I think they meant to

say: " ..... how bioactive food components can counteract adverse

health conditions " , but didn't quite get it right.

Either way I don't think we can be certain what it was they meant to

say. Perhaps the person who wrote it wasn't sure what he wanted to

say in the first place? (!)

Rodney.

I hope you're right. With the recent trend to ban supplements, &

protect pharmaceuticals, I can't be sure how far things will go.
