Guest guest
Bob, Although I don't know the details of your sinusitis problem, IMO a long fast is not the way to address it. Sinus problems may arise from allergies, enviromental pollutants, infections, and many other causes. There are several things that you may try besides a long fast. 1) Exercise in clean air. Some aerobic exercise will stimulate your lungs and respiratory passages to clean themselves. My allergy to pollens disappeared after I started exercising regulary for 30 minutes per day. 2) Look for sources of allergens in the rooms where you spend most of the time. Buy new pillows and a new mattress cover. Dust mites thrive on bedding and fuzzy sofas. Vacuum clean the house frequently. Use HEPA filters in all the rooms and change the filters often. Avoid pet dander and cigarette smoke. Don't use any perfumed lotions, aftershaves, or sprays. Some perfumes can provoke nasty reactions. Avoid smoke from cooking. Avoid dusty environments. 3) Rinse your nose with saline solution at bedtime. Dissolve one teaspoon of salt in 1/2 or 2/3 cup of warm water and snort it through the nose. This removes contaminants from the nasal passages and the osmotic pressure from the salty water stimulates the nose to flow. Nasal cleansing using saline solution has been practiced for centuries in India under the name " neti " . There are over 400,000 entires in Google. Now, about fasting: Don't fast for more than one day. Replenish electrolytes, particularly in hot days. Don't drink only plain water, add a little salt. As others have stated, we support moderation. Alternate day fasting is being studied as an alternative to CR for life extension, but it has not been studied enough. Longer fasts are not advisable. Does anybody have any suggestions as to which vitamin and mineral supplementation to take during a long term (water only) fast of 1-3 weeks. I know Walford discourages long term fasts. But I have had some success with this technique for a health problem (sinusitis), and I want to try it again with supplements.
