Guest guest
Greetings, At the CALGB plenary session in Boston, time was given to the 55-year history of CALGB. Dr. Holland's presentation on the history of progress against cancer, and CALGB's role, was informative and inspirational! Also described was the restructuring plan and merger. ACTION is a newly formed cancer cooperative group, which stands for: Alliance for Clinical Trials In ONology . It will be referred to as the Alliance. The new group integrates the complementary scientific and operations activities of the 1) Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) 2) North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG) 3) American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG) It is expected that the merger will lead to better science and the faster conduct of well-designed clinical trials for a broader range of indications (brain, myeloma, breast, lymphoma, and rare cancers) with a greatly improved bioinformatics and tissue bank resources - as recommended by the Institute of Medicine (IOM).
